Career

Cummings attended Jonathan Grant High School, Cincinnati State College, and the University of Cincinnati, where he majored in criminal justice.

Cummings was chosen by the Colorado Rapids as a Round 3 pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft as the nation's top pick. Cummings scored two goals on Monday to help the Rapids beat Chivas USA 3–0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The results culminated in him being named Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Week 23 of the MLS season by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The Colorado Rapids had granted Cummings permission to trial with English Premier League club Aston Villa on December 27, 2010. Aston Villa's chief, Gérard Houllier, told the court that the trial had impressed on him on January 17th. A deal could not proceed due to work permit issues.

Cummings made his 100th MLS appearance for the Rapids on April 30th, 2010, against the Chicago Fire. He had been back to play for Colorado again in 2010.

Cummings was sold to Houston Dynamo in exchange for Nathan Sturgis and allocation funds on December 22, 2012. He was with Houston for two years.

Cummings signed with the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League in 2015. He had a fruitful season, scoring ten goals in 29 matches.

Cummings joined expansion team FC Cincinnati of the United Soccer League on January 21, 2016.

FC Cincinnati announced on July 23, 2017 that Cummings will retire from professional soccer. In an international friendly against Valencia CF on the following day, he played his last match. The club honoured Cummings with a brief ceremony and gifted him with a framed jersey during the match's halftime. Following his release, Cummings joined FC Cincinnati's front office, where he worked on youth academy and community projects.

Cummings made his international debut for Jamaica in July 2008.
