Personal life
Joe Odagiri was born in Tsuyama, Okayama prefecture. Despite being accepted by Kochi University, he turned down an opportunity to study in the United States. He had intended to study film directing at California State University in Fresno, but an application process error led him to acting classes. He often says that Tokyo is his second hometown.
Odagiri unveiled his new venture on December 27, 2008 at a news conference in Tokyo. He will be the producer of an 11-year film.
