Nushrat Bharucha (born 17 May 1985) is an Indian film actress best known for her appearances in Bollywood films. Bharucha made her acting debut with the 2009 box office flop Kal Kissne Dekha.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, her first commercial success, was a result of her 2015 buddy drama.

She had her best comedies sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) and Dream Girl, portraying the female lead.

Early life

Nushrat Bharucha was born in 1985 in a Dawoodi Bohra family of Bombay. Tanvir Bharucha, a businessman and her mother Tasneem Bharucha, a housewife, is the only child of her father. From Jai Hind College in Mumbai, Nushrat earned a degree in Fine Arts.

Personal life

Due to numerological reasons, Bharucha shortened her name to Nushrratt Bharuccha in June 2020.

Career

Bharuccha made her acting debut with a minor role in the 2002 television series Kittie Party. Jai Santoshi Maa (2006) produced the music video "Zindagi Kahin Gum Hai" by Zubeen Garg in 2007. She appeared in Kal Kissne Dekha (2009) and appeared in Telugu film Taj Mahal (2010). Drishika Kashyap was her last television appearance in Seventies as Drishika Kashyap.

Bharuccha played a prominent part in Hindi films with Dibakar Banerjee and Ekta Kapoor's Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), which did moderately well. In Luv Ranjan's directorials Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) and Akaash Vani (2013), both of which failed, as well as her upcoming disaster Darr @ the Mall (2014) starring Jimmy Sheirgill.

Bharuccha made a comeback by appearing in Ranjan's Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (2015) for the third time. The film was her first commercial success, grossing over 88 percent worldwide. However, Meeruthia Gangsters (2015) and Valeba Raja (2016), her previous releases, were underperformed.

In Ranjan and Bhushan Kumar's Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, she came into limelight in 2018 for portraying a grey shaded character opposite Aaryan and Sunny Nijjar. It was a surprise blockbuster at the box-office, grossing 150 crores worldwide. She maintained her success with Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar, and Raaj Shaandyaa's 200 crores-grossing comedy Dream Girl (2019), in which she appeared as Ayushmann Khurrana's love interest. Both Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Dream Girl were accepted into the 100 Crore Club in India and ranked among her best grossing debuts.

Also in 2019, Bharuccha's "Peet Ke" was performed alongside Sidharth Malhotra in Milap Zaveri and Bhushan Kumar's romantic romance Marjaavaan, which was sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh. She appeared in two music videos, Atif Aslam's "Baarishein" and Guru Randhawa's "Ishq Tera."

Bharuccha's next sports film Chhalaang (2020) directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Ajay Devgn was immediately released on Amazon Prime Video due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, which resulted in the long-discontinuous closure of theatres. In a film that received mixed feedback, she appeared in Rajkummar Rao's ladylove.

She appeared in two OTT films in 2021 as Yo Yo Honey Singh's "Saiyaan Ji" and was featured in two OTT films. She appeared in Ajeeb Daastaans' Netflix anthology film Ajeeb Daastaans and then in Vishal Furia and Bhushan Kumar's Amazon Prime horror film Chhorii, first and foremost for her acting. Chhorii appeared in her first film as a solo female-centric character.

Bharuccha appeared firstly in the love triangle Hurdang (2022) with Sunny Kaushal and Vijay Varma. It was directed by Nikhil Nagesh Tiwari and produced by Bhushan Kumar, resulting in a big box office demise. She has also received critical acclaim for her appearance in Janhit Mein Jaari's female-centric social comedy earlier this year.

Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez will appear in the historical drama Ram Setu, which will be released on Diwali 2022. Chhorii 2, a sequel to Chhorii, will be followed by this. In Johar and Mehta's 2023 comedy Selfiee, she will also work with Akshay Kumar, Diana Penty, and Emraan Hashmi.
