Norodom Sihamoni Life

Norodom Sihamoni (born 14 May 1953) is the King of Cambodia.

He became King on October 14, 2004, a week after King Norodom Sihanouk's abduction.

He is King Sihanouk and Queen Norodom Monineath's oldest son.

He was Cambodia's ambassador to UNESCO and was chosen by a nine-member throne council to become the next king after his father Norodom Sihanouk abdicated in 2004.

Sihamoni was educated in Czechoslovakia and was best known for his work as a cultural ambassador in Europe and as a classical dance instructor before assuming the throne.

He is single.

Early life

Sihamoni was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Thursday, May 14, 1953. Two morphemes from his parents' names "Sihanouk" and "Monineath" are included in his given name "Sihamoni" and "Monineath." Monique Izzi, a Khmer citizen of French, Corsican, and Khmer originstry, had been one of King Norodom Sihanouk's comrades since being a regular companion since the time she met in 1951 when she won first prize in a national beauty competition for the first time.

At the time of her marriage to King Norodom Sihanouk in 1952, she was given the name Neak Moneang and the name Monineath. In addition, Queen Monineath is a step-granddaughter of Cambodian Prince Norodom Duong Chakr and the niece of Pomme Peang and of her second husband, Jean-François Izzi, a Corsican banker, and the niece of her second husband, Jean-François Izzi.

Sihamoni's father has 14 half-brothers and half-sisters; his only full sibling, Samdech Narindrapong, was born in 1954 and died in 2003.

Prince Sihamoni began his studies in 1959, where he attended Norodom School in Phnom Penh and Lycée Descartes School, demonstrating an early interest in the arts early in his life.

By his father's 1961 arrival in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he was sent to Prague in the former Czechoslovakia to study abroad. He began his early education at Majakovskeho Primary School and then at Ostrovni Elementary School. He appeared in Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker in his youth, was one of several actors in Pyotr Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, where he pursued private ballet and piano lessons and was once considered for a television performance of Brundibár, a well-known children's opera. He completed his secondary education at the National Prague Conservatory and was regarded as a good student, receiving high marks. He enriched his interest in the performing arts, attended courses in this field, and excelled in his class. He also acquired a great deal of fluency in Czech. Vladimir Ss film The Other Prince was shot about the prince in Prague in 1967, under the name The Other Little Prince (Jinc). The prince will occasionally visit his homeland for holidays, but when he did, he became involved in Cambodia's arts and cultural scene, including starring in a film directed by his father and performing ballet. Sihamoni remained in Czechoslovakia after the 1970 Cambodian coup d'état by Lon Nol.

Sihamoni obtained his higher education in classical dance and music at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, culminating in the awarding of a Master's degree in Cambodia, for which he wrote a thesis. After graduating in 1975, he left Prague and began to study filmmaking in North Korea.

However, Sihamoni was forced to return to Cambodia in 1976 after being deceived by the Khmer Rouge with a forged telegram, undersigned by King Sihanouk's order to return him. Immediately, the tyrant Khmer Rouge government led by Pol Pot to the opposition of the monarchy, bringing Sihamoni, his brother Prince Norodom Narindrapong, his father King Norodom Sihanouk, and his uncle Prince Norodom Narindrapong, his uncle King Norodom Sihanouk under house arrest in the Royal Palace during much of the period of Democratic Kampuchea. Many members of the wider royal family were killed, as well as Sihamoni and his immediate family, who were literally cut off from the outside world. The family was airlifted to China, and Sihamoni later served as a secretary for his father during the 1979 Vietnamese Invasion, which ousted the Khmer Rouge.

Sihamoni began teaching ballet in 1981, a position he held for nearly two decades at various conservatoires, including the Marius Petipa Conservatory, the Gabriel Faure Conservatory, and the W.A. Mozart's Conservatory is located in Mozart's Conservatory. He was also the president of the Khmer Dance Association later in life. He lived in France for almost 20 years and continued his education, including founding 'Ballet Deva', an original dance troupe in which he served as both its General Manager and Artistic Director, as well as the Royal Khmer Cinematic Corporation. During this period, he attempted monkhood under the auspices of Samdech Bour Kry, who would later become Cambodia's supreme patriarch.

Cambodia's Supreme National Council, which had been recognized by United Nations Security Council Resolution 668 as part of the country's transitional process following the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements, unanimously selected Prince Sihamoni as the country's permanent representative to the United Nations. The prince was appointed as Cambodia's permanent representative to UNESCO in Paris in 1993, a position he held until he became King in 2004. He was known for his hard work and dedication to Cambodian history in this position. He had previously declined to serve as Cambodia's ambassador to France.

Personal life

The King is a bachelor and has no children. The future of Cambodia's monarchy will not be determined by the Royal Council of the Throne, rather an elective monarchy, as the country's constitution dictates. When asked about Sihamoni's marital status, his parents, King-Father Norodom Sihanouk and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath, remarked that he was uninterested in marriages and rather committed to a monastic lifestyle backed by buddhist values. Sihamoni is regarded as somewhat as an enigmatic figure, with the published literature pointing to a "reflective, intentional, and cultured man" who might have reservations about his aspiration to be king, yet despite this, he humbly assumed the solemn responsibility of his office, although not holding "his cards close to his chest."

The king is described as a man of simple tastes" in addition to his interest in the arts and culture, which is well documented. In his free time, he seems to enjoys the quiet of meditation, reading, exercising, listening to classical music, e.g. Beethoven and observance of traditional Buddhist rituals. In addition, it has been reported that he enjoys comedy films, is the occasional fan of chocolates, and likes to stay up-to-date and news, balancing his personal interests with that of his rushed and tight schedule as the head of state. His dedication to the responsibilities of a monarch may have been seen in 2011 when he notably declined to attend Kate Middleton and Prince William's royal wedding, which the British tabloids described as a "snub." Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials quickly dismissed this, saying that a declination alert was indeed sent and that no snub occurred. In addition, being keen on DVDs related to ballet and opera in general, he is also an avid reader of Czech theatre news.

Norodom Sihamoni, the only emperor in the world to do so, speaks Czech fluently. The king is also a fluent in French and is a conversational speaker of English and Russian. He has basic fluency in Mandarin as well.

Prince Sihamoni appeared in a few films in the 1960s and 1990s, mainly directed by his father, a prolific and influential film-maker. He has also worked on documentaries and produced a few films himself.
