Nego do Borel, the artistic name of Leno Maycon Viana Gomes (born 10 July 1992), is a Brazilian singer of funk ostentaço, composer, and actor.

He is best known for hits including "Os Cara do Momento," "Diamante de Lama," "Bonde dos Brabos," and "Você Partiu Meu Coraço" with Wesley Safado and Anitta.

Early life

Leno Maycon Viana Gomes was born in Rio de Janeiro on July 10, 1992, and was raised in Morro do Borel, Rio's poorest slum. He was Roseli Vianna and Nelcir Gomes' only child. He dropped out of school in fourth grade to become a funk artist. Borel's name "Nego do Borel" (meaning "black man from Borel) appeared in a nickname given to him by one of his relatives. Gomes will later use it as his stage name. After John Lennon and Michael Jackson, Nego was raised an evangelical Christian and his mother baptized him Leno Maycon Viana Gomes.

Nearly all of his teeth had decayed by the time he came to fame, so his first priority was to ensure his oral health. Nego bought dentures that cost 100,000 BRL and rebuilt his house for his mother. He was making 200,000 BRL per month at the height of his fame.

Nego's debut single "Os Caras do Momento" was released in 2012 (English: The Guys of the Moment). The music video has approximately more than 50 million views on YouTube as of October 2018. Following his hit single's popularity, the singer appeared on many television shows including TV Xuxa, Programa do Ratinho, A Liga, Agora É Tarde, The Noite com Danilo Gentili, and others. On YouTube, Nego do Borel's second single "Bonde dos Brabos" has more than 14 million views.

Nego do Borel was soon signed to Sony Music and released three albums in 2014: Nego do Borel, É Ele Mesmo, and the live television documentary Da Lama a Ostentaço are among the two new actors. Ao Vivo is a YouTube channel. On April 29, 2014, the first album was released on April 29, 2014, and the second album was announced on August 19, 2014. Nego also released "Menina Má" from the DVD Da Lama a Ostentaço featuring Melanina Carioca in the same year.
