Natalya Dmitrievna "Natasha" Stefanenko (born 18 April 1969) is a Russian-born italian actress, model, and television host who lives and works in both Italy and Russia.
Early years
Stefanenko was born in Yekaterinburg (then Sverdlovsk), the niece of a nuclear engineer who worked in an underground industry beneath the Urals Mountains. She and her family lived in a tiny town and they also owned a dacha right next to a lake.
Stefanenko was also a swimming champion who swam with Alexander Popov; as a child, she swam 10 kilometres a day. She nearly joined the Soviet Olympic swimming team in 1984 but she wanted to continue with her studies. The Soviet Union decided not to attend the 1984 Summer Olympics, which were held in Los Angeles, as it turned out.
Stefanenko went to school in Moscow where she later obtained a diploma in Metal Engineering.
Personal life
Stefanenko married Italian entrepreneur and ex-model Luca Sabbioni in December 1995, and the couple has one child, Sasha, who was born in 2000.
Career
Stefanenko moved to Milan, where she obtained modeling work after winning the Look of the Year competition in Moscow in 1991. She was first discovered in a restaurant by director Beppe Recchia, and she and host Gerry Scotti made their first television appearance on the variety show La grande sfida, but not being able to speak Italian at the time.
In 1999, she began her acting with the film La grande prugna. Angela Cornelio, one of the protagonists of the television series Nebbie e delitti (Fog and Crimes), which aired on Rai Due from 2005 to 2009. She has also hosted numerous programs, including the 2001 edition of Festivalbar, which is an annual series of televised summer concerts performed by both Italian and foreign pop groups in town squares throughout Italy; and Italia's Next Top Model in 2009. She appeared in Distretto di Polizia 9 (Police District 9), in the same year as 2009 (Police District 9). She has been a host of Russia's television show "Snimite eto nemedlenno," which is based on the British show What Not to Wear (UK).
