Mira Lesmana Life

Mira Lesmana (born 8 August 1964) is an Indonesian film director, producer, and songwriter.

She is best known as the producer of Miles Films, a predecessor to Miles Productions, which she co-manages with Indonesian filmmaker Riri Riza.

Ada Apa dengan Cinta? She has made several critically and commercially successful films, including Petualangan Sherina (Sherina's Adventure; 2000).

(What's Up with Love?

Gie (2005), and Laskar Pelangi (2008) (The Rainbow Troops; 2008).

Early life

Lesmana was born in Jakarta to musician Jack Lesmana and his wife Nien. Indra Lesmana, the jazz pianist, is her younger brother. She began kindergarten at Cikini School at the age of five; her primary and middle school classes were also conducted at the same school. Lesmana, adolescent, aspired to be a scientist or a detective, and she was often at the top of her class. She later recalled that seeing George Lucas' Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) "blew [her] off [her] feet" and may have inspired her to pursue filmmaking.

Lesmana wrote her first song, which her brother Indra used to gain a scholarship to a music school in Australia at the age of 16. When Indra was still a child, the family migrated to Australia with him in 1979. Lesmana continued her education there; although she had previously studied English in Indonesia, she had trouble with the Australian accent. She also started watching movies on a regular basis. Lesmana moved from a public school to the Australian International Independence School in her second year in Australia. The Lesmana family returned to Indonesia after she graduated. She joined the Jakarta Art Institute in 1983, graduating in 1985. Garin Nugroho's first filmmaking experience was a public service announcement made at her behest.

Lesmana married former model, actor Mathias Muchus, on February 14, 1990; the couple has two sons, Galih Galinggis and Kafka Keandre. Lesmana continued writing songs into the early 1990s, some for her brother and one for Chrisye's 1993 album Sendiri Lagi (Alone Again). Miles Productions, a film production company that was later renamed Miles Films, was founded in 1995. Anak Seribu Pulau, the child of a Thousand Islands, was released in 1996.

Mira Lesmana Career

Film career

Lesmana made her debut with Kuldesak in 1999, co-directing with Riza Mantovani, Riri Riza, and Nan Triveni. Petualangan Sherina (Sherina's Adventure) appeared in the following years. At the time, the Indonesian film industry was in decline, and several filmmakers mocked the attempts, saying that the films were unlikely to be profitable; nevertheless, both were highly successful; Lesmana announced Ada Apa dengan Cinta in 2002.

(What's Up with Love?

) is a co-producer with Riza. These films, according to Iwan Setiawan's essay in The Jakarta Post, have jump-started the sector's revival.

In 2005, Lesmana produced Gie, a biopic of activist Soe Hok Gie. Despite being a critical success, it didn't break even more. Lesmana was a founding member of the Indonesian Film Society (Masyarakat Film Indonesia), which sought to reform censorship laws in the region. The company's petitions were ultimately rejected. She also produced Garasi (Garage), a film starring Aries Budiman, Ayu Ratna, and Fedi Nuril in 2006. In 2007, the cast reformed to form the band Garasi, one of Lesmana's first acts to sign Lesmana's new recording company Miles Music. 3 Hari Untuk Selamanya (3 Days for Forever) was released by the film's soundtrack by Float, another band on Miles Music.

Lesmana created Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Troops), an extension of Andrea Hirata's 2007 book of the same name. She continued to press for new film censorship controls in the same year, which culminated in the government passing a new one in 2009. Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer), a sequel to Laskar Pelangi based on the novel of the same name, was released next year. Lesmana wrote twenty songs for a musical stage performance of Laskar Pelangi in 2010, a project that also included Erwin Gutawa, Jay Subiyakto, and Hartandi.

Atambua 39° Celsius, a film about refugees who live in Atambua, began filming in 2012. The film was partially funded by crowd-funding and held its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Sokola Rimba, the Maya Awards' Best Film, was released the following year.

Pendekar Tongkat Emas (The Golden Cane Warrior, 2014), a martial arts film directed by Ifa Isfansyah, was Lesmana's most expensive production as of 2017 to date. Its estimated budget, which included Eva Celia, Nicholas Saputra, and Reza Rahadian, was 25 billion rupiah.

Ada Apa dengan Cinta was produced by Lesmana in 2016.

2 (What's Up with Love?

2;) A sequel to Ada Apta dengan Cinta. The film, like its predecessor, was a hit among audiences, and more than 3.6 million people watched it as of June 2016. Lesmana also released Athirah (Mother) in the same year, a film based on Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla's mother's life. The film received both the Citra Award and Maya Award for Best Film, and it had been shown at numerous international film festivals to enthusiastic audiences.
