Gore Verbinski Career

Career

Verbinski played in several Los Angeles rock bands early in his career. He performed guitar in the Daredevils, Bulldozer, The Drivers, and the all-star group The Cylon Boys Choir. He was also in The Little Kings, a youth group that backed Stiv Bators on their version of "Have Love Will Travel" with amateur drummer Chris "Poobah" Bailey. The album was released by Bators in 1986 as a 12-inch single on Bomp, as well as a a picture of Moody Blues' "The Story in Your Eyes" (by other artists). (catalogue #12136) and was later included in Bators' compilation album L.A. L.A.'s liner notes. Label owner Greg Shaw characterized the band as "an excellent but rootless Hollywood glam-damaged band with tattoos."

"The Driver Files" was a series of 8 mm films released c. 1979, when he was a young teen. After graduating from film school at UCLA, he began working as a script reader at the commercial production firm Limelight in 1987. Julien Temple viewed some of his creations and later Palomar Pictures, where he produced music videos for bands including Vicious Rumors, Bad Religion, NOFX, 24-7 Spyz, and Monster Magnet. Verbinski went from music videos to commercials, where he worked for many brand names, including Nike, Coca-Cola, Canon, Skittles, and United Airlines. Budweiser's most well-known commercials featured frogs who croaked the brand name, making them one of the company's most popular ads. Verbinski received four Clio Awards and one Cannes Advertising Silver Lion for his efforts in commercials.

In April 2005, Verbinski founded Blind Wink Productions.

Verbinski made his debut with Mouse Hunt after completing a short film The Ritual (which he both wrote and directed). Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt starred in the film, which was a huge hit around the world, and he soon followed up with the action/comedy The Mexican, starring Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. The film received mixed reviews and performed modestly at the box-office, grossing $68 million domestically, which was somewhat disappointing considering its low budget (it was technically viable due to its moderately low $38 million budget). Verbinski nailed it out with his sequel To the Ring (2002), which earned over $200 million worldwide, and took home a huge audience. Verbinski took over the Time Machine this year, temporarily replacing an ill Simon Wells. Verbinski produced several of the film's underground Morlock sequences and is honoured for his work.

He then led the Caribbean Pirates of the Curse of the Black Pearl, which earned over $600 million at the international box office. This was his first film with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has since worked on several other films. Nicolas Cage appeared in The Weather Man, his next film. The film received mixed to glowing reviews, but it was still a box office loss. In March 2005, he began filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's Conclusion. The former Hollywood actor then became his highest success so far, grossing over $1 billion at the international box office for the third time. Verbinski was also supposed to produce a film for Universal based on the video game BioShock. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo as director was then brought on as director, and Verbinski's film was later cancelled. His Blind Wink production company signed a deal with Universal in 2008.

Verbinski would dedelve into the Western genre in 2011 and 2013, with wildly different results: Rango was well-received both technically and commercially, and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature was given. However, his adaptation of The Lone Ranger for Disney, by the 1930s radio hero, was not successful; the project had been delayed for several years, undergone rewrites and budget reductions, and eventually lost out on Johnny Depp's casting as the Native American Tonto. The film earned $260 million against a $215–225 million budget, plus an estimated $150 million marketing campaign. After being attached as director for many years, he was also the executive producer of the Ben Stiller version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty that year.

Dane DeHaan's horror film A Cure for Wellbeing premiered at the Alamo Drafthouse in 2016, before being widely distributed in 2017. It received poor reviews from critics and was a financial disaster, grossing $26.6 million against a $40 million budget.

Verbinski had planned to direct a film centered around Gambit, which was set within the X-Men film universe, before being forced to cancel in January 2018.

Verbinski was involved with Matter, the first console-based computer game that was built for the Xbox 360 using Kinect, and he was involved with it. Verbinski later announced that the game has been cancelled after being announced at E3 2012.

According to What's On Netflix, the subscription service has licenses to'rent' movies and TV shows for a certain period of time, and if something goes missing, it means the'rental' period has come to an end, so to speak. Surprisingly enough, some of the Netflix Original Films that were made in-house would be leaving as well, and they are likely to be out on other platforms for a time.
