Mike Einziger Career

Career

In 1991, Einziger co-founded Incubus with Calabasas High School classmates Brandon Boyd, Jose Pasillas II, and Alex Katunich. Incubus has sold over 23 million albums worldwide, including two Grammys, MTV Music Video Awards, The American Music Awards, MTV U Woodie Award, and the Billboard Awards. Incubus has appeared at The Hollywood Bowl, The Great Western Forum, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Wembley Arena in London, and Araneta Coliseum in Manila, Philippines.

Einziger founded Time Lapse Consortium in 2003, outside of his work with Incubus. Jose Pasillas II and Ben Kenney (who was not a member of Incubus at the time), Neal Evans of the band Soulive, and long-time collaborator Suzie Katayama contributed to string arrangements. The band appeared at The Roxy in Los Angeles and would continue to appear Jimmy Kimmel and the Knitting Factory in New York City.

Einziger's career as a film score composer began in the early 2000s, first with the short film Miss Gentilbelle (2000) and then the independent film Sol Goode (2001), which also starred Jared Leto of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He has been working on soundtracks for films for the past few years.

Einziger contributed to Ziggy Marley's debut solo album Dragonfly in 2003, as well as Flea and John Frusciante of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Einziger produced the soundtrack for the 2001 film Sol Goode, which was released later in 2003. When Einziger and his bandmates worked on the soundtrack of the famous game Halo 2, he and his bandmates also performed Flea on trumpet, extending to video games. Agent Sparks' debut album "Red Rover" was released in 2006, a joint effort with younger brothers Benjamin Einziger and Paul Fried.

Einziger released Nighttiming, the debut album of longtime friend and former Phantom Planet drummer and actor Jason Schwartzman's Coconut Records project in 2007. Kirsten Dunst, Zooey Deschanel, and Robert Schwartzman appeared on the album, and was shot at Einziger's own home studio in Malibu, CA (Casa Chica).

Following surgery in March 2007 for carpal tunnel syndrome, a repetitive-strain injury to his left wrist, Einziger started composing an orchestral piece "End.>vacuum." Due to his illness, he was forced to take a hiatus from the band and his instrument.

The piece was performed by a chamber orchestra led by Los Angeles conductor and Einziger's long-time collaborator Suzie Katayama. Igor Stravinsky, George Antheil, George Crumb, Samuel Barber, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Frank Zappa have all been credited with such iconoclastic modern and avant-garde composers as Igor Stravinsky, George Antheil, George Crumb, George Crumb, Samuel Barber, Krzysztof Penderecki and Frank Zappa.

"End.|vacuum" makes reference to Einziger's analysis of human understanding's outer edge, "the concrete location where pragmatic scientific knowledge stops and pure speculation ensues."

"Einziger's work has no time" says the author. "Pulsating tribal/mechanical rhythms melt into long, almost static stretches as the rhythm returns." The contemporary ensemble work of John Adams in the early 1980s comes to mind, but Einziger's piece's style is undisputed."

>vacuum was Einziger's first original orchestral composition. On August 23, 2008, it debuted at UCLA's prestigious Royce Hall.

Dr. Peter Galison of Harvard University has researched the history and philosophy of physics.

He has a strong interest in the physical sciences. Dr. Kenneth Miller, a Brown University professor and evolutionary biology researcher, contributed to an article on human evolution in 2008.

Einziger, a British physicist, took a personal tour of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 17, 2008. Dr. Cox was invited to speak at his "End.>vacuum" concert later this fall during Einziger's visit.

Einziger orchestrated and recorded the additional strings for the Thirty Seconds to Mars third album This Is War in 2009.

Einziger started working with progressive house artist Avicii on the EDM producer's "Wake Me Up" in 2012. True is his debut studio album. Einziger appeared at Ultra 15, alongside bandmates Jose Pasillas, Ben Kenney, and country music legend Mac Davis. The song hit No. 1 in July 2013. In 39 countries, 1 is the most popular.

Einziger has also worked on music for Hans Zimmer's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," Pharrell Williams, Johnny Marr, and David A. Stewart.
