Michael Massee Life

Michael Groo Massee (September 1, 1952 – October 20, 2016) was an American actor.

He starred as Funboy in 1994 film The Crow, Ira Gaines in 24, and The Gentleman in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man.

He also reprised this role in the 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Early life

Michael Groo Massee was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1952, to Jack Groo Massee and his wife, Holly. The family moved to Paris, France, where Massee grew up and, after high school, he came back to the United States settling in New York, where he graduated from Hunter College and studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.

Personal life

Massee married Ellen Sussdorf in 1997, with whom he had two children: Jack and Lily. The couple owned a clothing boutique in Los Angeles. Massee died of stomach cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on October 20, 2016 at the age of 64.

Career

In 1993, Massee played Funboy in the film The Crow, starring Brandon Lee. Massee was the actor who fired the bullet that killed Lee by mistake on the set in 1993 due to an improperly-prepared prop gun. After being traumatized by the tragedy, he returned to New York and took a year off from acting, but never saw the film. Massee admitted in a 12-year interview that he had nightmares about it, saying, "I don't think you ever get over something like this."

Massee appeared in Tales from the Hood in 1995. As well as appearing on the television series 24 as the villain Ira Gaines, he was the voice for the villain Spellbinder in The Batman. Bruce Banner appeared in the Ultimate Avengers animated film, as well as the sequel Ultimate Avengers 2. He appeared in the film Seven with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Andy was a protagonist in David Lynch's Lost Highway. He was the physical representation of Management (a.k.a. Lucius Belyakovin (Carnivàle) on HBO's Carnivàle. He appeared in "The Field Where I Died," an X-Files episode. He appeared in NBC television miniseries Revelations as the leading antagonist. He appeared on Criminal Minds as a serial murderer on death row in 2006. He appeared in the Law & Order episode "Reunion" as a rock star. Dyson Frost, the villain in the American television series FlashForward, appeared as Dyson Frost. Kubrick, a hunter, appeared on the show Supernatural in 2007.

In the first two seasons of the television show Rizzoli & Isles, Massee portrayed serial killer Charles Hoyt, who was detained in prison. He appeared in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and reincarnated the role as Gustav Fiers (alias The Gentleman) in The Amazing Spider-Man and starred in the 2014 sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Massee, a French speaker, appeared in the French series Interventions in 2014.
