Mathew Horne Career

Career

Horne began his career as a comedian and then became half of comedy duo Mat and MacKinnon, first appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2000. Catherine Tate, who invited him to appear in BBC TV show The Catherine Tate Show, was spotted at the festival. Horne has appeared in several Catherine Tate's Nan specials since then. In two festive episodes of Catherine Tate's Nan in 2015, he reprised his role as Jamie.

He appeared in Channel 4's 20 Things to Do Before You're 30, and the following year, he took the role of Ben, an atheist RE tutor in Channel 4's Teachers. Doc Martin was also featured in the first series of ITV's Doc Martin. Horne appeared in an episode of The Smoking Room in 2005, as Dominic, Janet's nephew. The latter was doing a psychological analysis of the employees. In 2007, he appeared in BBC sitcom Roman's Empire and in November appeared in comedy sketches in The Kylie Show on ITV1 with Kylie Minogue as her assistant. Horne appeared in the second series of Robin Hood. Gavin Shipman, a kind-hearted young man who has worked with a girl he has known through their work phone calls and falls in love with her from 2007 to 2010. The show, as a Christmas special, attracted widespread critical notice. For the 2019 Christmas special, he returned to this role. Horne appeared in a modern version of the Three Billy Goats Gruff on the BBC in 2008. He also narrated the ITV2 series The Passions of Girls Aloud.

Horne appeared in the film Lesbian Vampire Killers starring James Corden, and it was his first appearance in the Trafalgar Studios in 2009. Horne had collapsed onstage during a West End performance of the play on April 3, 2009. He stayed on stage until medical assistance arrived, but he was admitted to the hospital at that time. After being "flat out" for three months, a tweet was released shortly after saying he was exhausted. Later, it was revealed that he was suffering from a virus.

He and James Corden and Kylie Minogue attended the 2009 BRIT Awards on February 18, 2009, together.

As Bill Eversleigh, Horne appeared in an episode of Miss Marple named "The Secret of Chimneys" in 2010. Ruth Jones, a Gavin & Stacey actor, appeared alongside him.

Jon Moss, a drummer for Culture Club, was one of the teen years of Boy George in the BBC TV docudrama Worried About the Boys, about the boyhood of Boy George.

In 2016, Horne toured British theatres with Catherine Tate of The Catherine Tate Show Live. Mr. Grace is also known as a young Mr. Grace in Are You Being Served?

In the 2019 UKTV Original produced series The Missing Episodes, he appeared in Dad's Army: Private Walker. He appeared in all three episodes that aired on the television network Gold.

Catherine Tate's Nan will be turned into a film version in early 2019. The film was supposed to be released on June 19, 2020, but due to cinemas being closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was indefinitely postponed. On February 20, 2022, the film's trailer and poster were released, with Josie Rourke receiving an executive producer award and no director named. On March 18, 2022, the film was released.

Horne has collaborated with its co-creator James Corden several times since being on the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey.

Horne and Corden appeared on Big Brother's Big Mouth as guests in 2007 and then became regulars for the run covering E4's Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack. In 2008 and a portion of Comic Relief in March 2009, the NME Shockwaves Awards were presented together. In 2008, the pair toured the United Kingdom for a stand-up display in preparation for their BBC sketch show Horne & Corden. On March 10, 2009, the first episode of BBC Three was broadcast. In a style reminiscent of Morecambe and Wise or The Two Ronnies, it was staged in front of a live audience. The collection of pre-filmed sketches and live performances were included.

Lesbian Vampire Killers, a comedy horror film, was also released in 2009. The film's reviews were largely critical. Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator with an average score of 4/10, has a 29 percent approval rating. It is described as "immediately regrettable lads' mag farce" and a "appalling waste of a perfectly good name," according to James Christopher of The Times. "takes all the common options of bad taste, bosoms, and body fluids," Allan Hunter of the Daily Express described it as "poorly written and executed" and "hastily executed" and "takes all the common options of bad taste, bosoms, and body fluids." Anthony Quinn, a writer for The Independent, rated the film one out of five stars, saying Horne and Corden had "overstretched their appeal" and put the actor out of their range, and it appeared that he was in danger of becoming today's Hale and Pace. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw described the film as "mostly sad," but "there are one or two crass laughs."

Nicholas Yanes of Scifipulse.net found it to be "a great B film" worthy of becoming a cult classic. Corden said on the comedy panel show, The King is Dead, that watching the film would be too harsh a punishment for prisoners detained at Guantanamo Bay, and that it would be "a pile of shit."

Horne appeared in the CGI film Planet 51 alongside Corden, with a small part portraying a soldier, Vesklin.
