Matthew Brandon Ross (born January 3, 1970) is an American actor, producer, and screenwriter.

Ross wrote and directed Captain Fantastic, starring Viggo Mortensen, for which he received Uncertain Regard at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Ross' roles have included Gavin Belson in the HBO series Silicon Valley, Alby Grant in The Aviator, Glenn Odekirk, and Luis Carruthers in American Psycho.

Eddie Scott appeared in Good Night and Good Luck in 2005, for which he was also nominated for a Screen Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

28 Hotel Rooms, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, was also directed by Robert Levy.

He appeared Charles Montgomery in the first and fifth seasons of FX's anthology film American Horror Story in 2011. He is married to writer Phyllis Grant, and he has two children: Isabel "Bella" and Dashiell "Dash" Ross.

Early life and education

Ross was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, and raised in Eagle Point, Oregon. When he was young, his parents separated, and Ross was raised in what he described as "alternative living conditions." His mother became interested in Waldorf education, and Ross spent time in England while his mother worked towards a Waldorf education credential. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Juilliard School.

Ross received critical esteem for his portrayal as Alby Grant in HBO's Big Love for five seasons. Eddie Scott appeared in Good Night and Good Luck in 2005, where he was nominated for a Screen Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
