Mathias Pogba Career

Club career

Pogba, a student at the University of Paris, and his twin brother Florentin joined the youth system at Celta Vigo. Pogba said that his time at the club was difficult due to language barriers, living in a foreign country, and being away from his family. He returned to France to play with Quimper's fourth division team, scoring twice in the league during his one season with the club. Riyad Mahrez, an Algerian national team, played for Algeria during his time at the club.

After a fruitful trial stint in August 2010, Pogba joined Conference National side Wrexham.

In a 0–0 draw against Fleetwood Town, Pogba made his Wrexham debut seven days earlier, arriving as a replacement for Curtis Obeng in the 75th minute. In a 2–0 victory over Bath City, Pogba scored his first Wrexham goal on January 3rd. In two games against Cambridge United and Mansfield Town, Pogba scored two goals. In a 1–0 victory over Wimbledon on February 22, his fourth goal came later. Pogba soon signed a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2012. In his first season with Wrexham, Pogba made 29 appearances and scored four times.

Pogba appeared in the first two games in the 2011–12 season, but after being suspended for two games due to an off-the-pitch issue, they were then banned for two games. In a 4–1 victory, he returned to the first team against Alfon Town and scored his first goal of the season. Pogba had scored a further six times by the end of December (against Grimsby Town, Hayes & Yeading United, Luton Town, Lincoln City). In 22 appearances against Gateshead, two against Gateshead. Pogba made his return against Forest Green Rovers after being sidelined for two games due to injury, only to be sidelined for the third time after suffering an ankle injury. On his return to action, Pogba defeated Hayes & Yeading United in a 4–1 victory. He later scored three more goals (against Ebbsfleet United, Darlington, and Braintree Town). During the 2011–12 season, he was named as the team's young player of the year.

Pogba was given a new two-year contract by the club, which he turned down in an attempt to play football at a higher level. Andy Morrell blasted Pogba's handling of the situation, saying he was "disrespectful" to the club after not informing them of his intention to leave 48 hours before the club's pre-season.

After leaving Wrexham, Pogba signed for Crewe Alexandra on a two-year contract on July 7, 2012. Pogba was given the number 9 shirt ahead of the new season after scoring eight goals in 11 pre-season friendly matches.

Pogba made an immediate impact on his debut against Hartlepool in a League Cup first round tie on August 11th. He scored on his first return to Notts County in a 2–1 loss to Brentford a week later. However, Pogba sustained a knee injury that kept him out of action for the majority of September. In a 1–0 loss against Milton Keynes Dons on September 29, he made his first team return by serving as a replacement. Pogba scored four more league goals in 20 appearances (against Doncaster Rovers, Colchester United, Sheffield United, and Oldham Athletic), as well as scoring two more goals against Wycombe Wanderers and Doncaster Rovers in separate cup competitions. Pogba ended his goal drought by scoring in a 2–1 loss to Bournemouth on February 12, 2013 after two months without scoring. Pogba also scored four more goals against Portsmouth, Colchester United, and MK Dons, as a brace against MK Dons. However, Pogba suffered a torn thigh that sidelined him for the remainder of the season, prompting him to have an operation. Despite being ruled out of the Football League Trophy Final and the club's promotion to League One, Pogba made 41 appearances and scored 16 times (making him the club's top scorer of the 2012–13 season).

Pogba is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season friendlies in 2013-2014. Pogba was present in five pre-season matches while wearing number 9 in shirt number 9. However, he sustained a medial ligament injury in his right knee during a 2–0 loss to a Manchester United XI. He was announced that he would be out for at least three months. Pogba signed a contract extension with the club, retaining him at the club until 2015. He returned to full fitness at the end of December and had to maintain his fitness by the end of December. Despite a tough 2013–14 season, he made 22 appearances and scored five times.

Pogba was determined to play as a central striker in the 2014–15 season, but Pogba wanted to leave Crewe despite the club's efforts to convince him not to remain. Pescara's crew accepted a bid for Crewe. In The Guardian, Pogba revealed that he wanted to leave Crewe to face new challenges.

In July 2014, Pogba joined Pescara's Serie B team, as well as his brother Paul of Juventus in Italy for an undisclosed sum. In a 2–1 loss against Catania, he made his Pescara debut on September 28th, emerging as a replacement for Matteo Politano in the 84th minute. Pogba was released by Pescara after six months at the club, after four appearances and no goals. He said that his time in Pescara was not positive, because the boss, Marco Baroni, did not see him play and seldom talked.

After being released by Pescara, Pogba signed for League One team Crawley Town on February 4, 2015. In a 2–1 loss to Yeovil Town three days after signing for the club, he made his Crawley Town debut. During a 4–3 loss to Peterborough United on 25 April 2015, he scored his first goal for Crawley Town, capping a 15-game streak without scoring. Pogba scored once more in the season's last game, a 2–1 loss to Coventry City that resulted in Crawley's relegation from League One. He left the team a few days later.

Pogba joined Partick Thistle, a Scottish Premiership company, for one-year with the option to extend by a further year on August 3rd.
