Career

Mortel debuted on television in 2009 as a contestant for the 5th season of GMA Network's talent competition StarStruck. At the time, he went by the screen name Marlowe Pamintuan, which was also a nickname. He made his debut with the name John Miguel Pamintuan as one of the regular teenage performers at German Moreno's "Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman." He appeared in the teen-oriented drama Tween Hearts in 2010. Uno, Barbie Forteza's most close friend, is a character in the film "Bambi"), who is romantically involved with Leslie (Lexi Fernandez). He performed "Wake Me Up" by Wham!, one of the songs on Tween Hearts' soundtrack album "Tween Academy: Class of 2012," which was released in 2011.

Mortel made his career breakthrough when he auditioned for The X Factor Philippines in 2012. In the daytime series Be Careful with My Heart, Nicolo Angelo Cortez was cast shortly after. Mortel and co-star Janella Salvador's "loveteam" has been formed since then. Mortel and Janella appeared in Maala Mo Kaya's episode "Card" on February 22, 2014.

Marlo was portrayed as "Gabriel Luna," the male lead of Janella Salvador's character in Oh My G! after his success in Be Careful with My Heart.

Mortel revealed in a live interview on Aquino & Abunda Tonight in January 2015 that he was not supposed to have as many lines in the defunct daytime series Be Careful With My Heart, but he was given a bigger part thanks to his mentor's feedback, which was extended in a live interview. He also said that he only intended to enter showbiz as a musician, not as an actor, and that he does not consider himself well-looking compared to his peers.

He wrote his fourth composition during elevated community quarantine "Racing Waters" in order to raise concerns of psychological and mental abuse in 2020. He also released his written new single "Bones" with Evelyn Cormier of American Idol Top 14. The music video was shot in Manila, Philippines, and New Hampshire, United States. He also appeared in "Suarez: The Healing Priest," a Metro Manila Film Festival film festival entry that took place in 2020, where he played the role of news reporter.

Marlo's debut single "Mahina" on Polyeast Records as well as "Bituin" on his virtual press conference in April 2021.
