Mark Moseley Life

Mark DeWayne Moseley (born March 12, 1948) is a retired professional football placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) who played for the Philadelphia Eagles (1970), the Houston Oilers (1971–72), and the Cleveland Browns (1986).

During the 1982-1982 season, he was named Most Valuable Player Award.

He is the only two non-offensive MVPs and is the only special teams player to win the NFL MVP award.

Early life and education

Moseley grew up in Livingston, Texas, and played football at Livingston High School. He attended Texas A&M University from 1965 to 1966, and Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) from 1967 to 1969. He played quarterback at both schools until he made the switch to placekicker in his senior year at SFA. He set Lone Star Conference records for most points in a game and the most field goals in a season in Lone.

Personal life

Moseley owned two restaurants in Virginia and later became the head of franchising for Five Guys Enterprises. He has five children and 13 grandchildren. Pamela Moseley Carpenter, Moseley's younger sister, was assassinated by Johnny Paul Penry in 1979. Moseley was extremely critical of the criminal justice system's treatment of Penry, who was released after serving two years of a five-year sentence for rape months before the murder took place. Moseley said he approved Penry's death penalty.

Mark Moseley Career

Professional career

Moseley was drafted 346th overall in the 14th round of the 1970 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, making him the first kicker to be drafted in the NFL. He was released by the Eagles in 1971 and then signed by the Houston Oilers in 1972, but only after that was released in 1972. He spent two years out of the league and returned to Livingston, Texas, where he installed septic systems and coached high school sports. During this time, he wrote letters to two dozen NFL teams and routinely practiced kicks with his children's returns. In 1974, the Washington Redskins signed him as a free agent.

Moseley became the sole full-time straight on placekicker in the National Football League after Rick Danmeier's retirement in 1982; there has only been one other (Dirk Borgognone), who played two games in 1995). The "soccer-style" of kicks (wherein the kicker approaches the ball at an angle and kicks it with the instep) was introduced by the Hungarian brothers Pete and Charlie Gogolak in the 1960s, and it's now widespread in football and other sports.

Moseley converted 23 straight field goals from 1981-82 (a record at the time), had a league-leading 20 of 21 field goals, a then-record 95.2 success rate, and was responsible for 76 points in the 1982 season. He was the first placekicker to win the Associated Press Most Valuable Player award in 1954 as a placekicker and offensive tackle, then George Blanda winning the same as a kicker and quarterback in 1970.) Moseley had a rougher time in the playoffs, missing four field goals in Washington's two postseason games. In the Washington Redskins' 27–17 victory over the Miami Dolphins, Moseley kicked two field goals and was successful on all three of his extra point attempts. With 161 points, he led the NFL in scoring during the 2011 season. In Washington's 24-21 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game, he also kicked the game-winning field goal, despite missing four previous attempts in the game.

By the Washington Redskins mid-season in 1986, the 38-year-old Moseley was released. With 1,207 points, he is still the country's best-scoring scorer. Despite missing two field goals in regulation and another in the first overtime period, he signed with the Cleveland Browns and retired at the end of the season, assisting them in their divisional playoff game against the New York Jets with a game-winning field goal in double overtime.

Moseley's career saw him win on 300 out of 457 field-goal attempts (65%), was successful on 482 out of 512 additional points attempts (94%), with a total of 1,382 points. He was the NFL's top field goals four times.

Calls grow for London to get a New York-style 'rat czar' to stop the city becoming overwhelmed - as expert confirms the rodents are getting bigger

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 2, 2024
It comes after former elementary school teacher Kathleen Corradi was announced as the first-ever Citywide Director of Rodent Mitigation in April, a position previously dubbed by New York's Mayor as 'rat czar'. The 34-year-old rat-catcher has had a passion for eliminating vermin since she was just 10-years-old and will lead a team of rodent experts to deal with city's critical rat problem. Sightings doubled in the last year, according to city data. Pest expert Mark Moseley, who was a candidate on The Apprentice in 2023, said he supported the idea of having a person dedicated to tackling the issue in the UK's capital. He told MailOnline: 'I do think it's a good idea to have someone appointed to specifically look at the problem and try and collect data from companies - councils in particular - and see what the correlation is. 'Why are certain areas get more rats? Is it to do with more people living there, or maybe there's less bin collections, so on and so forth. And they will sort of work it out.'

A massive rat invasion is underway, as a result of severe weather and floods, oversized vermin are being pushed into people's homes

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 13, 2024
Over the past 90 days, the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) said it has seen a 115 percent increase in people seeking advice on controlling rats. According to the BBC, there could be around 250 million rats in the UK, and severe weather has caused millions of them to be indoors. During the winter season, Natalie Bungay, BPCA's technical manager, said, "It's normal to see an increase in rat infestations as rats and mice are searching for warm, dry shelter with access to a food source." Overflowing wheelie bins and black bags full of garbage are basically a buffet for rodents, and disruption to bin collections over the festive period can also be a factor.' Foxes can be seen tearing overflowing garbage cans apart and spilling the contents, which encourages rats to come from the sewers to feed on the garbage. When looking for protection, floods in the United Kingdom have pushed the rats from their underground nests to buildings.

As disgusted families return home from holidays, to even find chocolate decorations off their Christmas trees, a plague of rats infested households around the United Kingdom in a perfect storm of bin collection delays, floods, and cut funding

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2024
Mark Moseley, a pest specialist, said he has been bombarded with calls from people returning from their Christmas break only to discover rats have invaded their homes. It started last week, this weekend, and tomorrow it'll just be crazy,' Mr Moseley said.
