Patrick Kermode (né Fairey, born 2 July 1963) is an English film critic and singer.
He is the chief film critic for The Observer and contributes to the magazine Sight & Sound, presents Mark Kermode's Secrets of Cinema, co-presents BBC Radio 5 Live show Kermode and Mayo's Film Review, and has co-presented the BBC Two Arts programme The Culture Show.
Kermode is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Early life
Kermode was born in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England. Lance Forman, an actor who appeared in The Haberdashers' Boys' School, a private boys' school in Elstree, Hertfordshire, in the same year as actor Jason Isaacs and former European Parliament member Lance Forman.
He was born a Methodist and later became a member of the Church of England. His parents divorced when he was in his early 20s and he later changed his surname to his mother's maiden name by deed poll. He obtained his Ph.D. in English at the University of Manchester in 1991 and wrote a thesis on horror fiction.
Personal life
Kermode is married to Linda Ruth Williams, a professor who teaches film at the University of Exeter. They cocurated a History of the Horror Film Season and Exhibition at the National Film Theatre in London from October to November 2004. Kermode and Williams have two children.
Kermode has been described as a "liberal, a near vegetarian (he eats fish), a churchgoer, and a straight-arrow spouse who just happens to love seeing people's heads explode on a cinema screen.
Kermode, a member of the Revolutionary Communist Group (RCG), was an "affiliate" of the Viraj Mendis Defence Campaign against the deportation of one of the group's supporters to Sri Lanka in the mid-1980s. This grew into a nationwide movement involving people from left-wing organisations, like the RCG, local residents of Manchester, and parliament members, as well as church leaders and Labour Party Members of Parliament. Kermode identifies himself as "a red-flag waving bolshie bore with a subscription to Fight Racism Imperialism and no sense of humor" during this period.
