Dominic Littlewood (born 29 March 1965) is a British television presenter and journalist who specialises in consumer affairs.
He is best known for his appearances on BBC and Channel 5 as Fake Britain, Cowboy Builders, Saints, and Scroungers, as well as Don't Get Done, Get Dom.
Early life and work
Littlewood was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, on March 29, 1965. He is one of four children of an air traffic controller father and teacher; despite his parents' second careers, the family was not wealthy, but Littlewood's early entrepreneurial ventures in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, was a success. His first job was as part of an on-board team rebuilding Thames sailing barges; when the company moved from Maldon, Essex to France, he began a City and Guilds apprenticeship in motor engineering.
Dom is diabetic, having been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child.
Television career
On the BBC dating show The Other Half, Littlewood was first seen on television as a contestant. Littlewood, who was at the time in charge of Network Cars in Leigh, Essex, appeared on Faking It, assisting Somerset vicar Nigel Done in 2000.
Beat the Burglar, a 2005 Littlewood production, was used to shield homeowners from burglary. He used the services of an ex-burglar who emphasized people's homes to highlight their vulnerability and show them how it feels to have your house ransacked and personal possessions stolen. Dominic watched the break-in on a monitor as well as the homeowners, and at the end of the film, he called on experts to come in and fix all of the security flaws pointed out by the ex-con.
Littlewood appeared in Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One in 2007. On Channel 5, he has co-presented Cowboy Builders since 2010.
