Jim Nelson (born March 8, 1963) is an American journalist best known for his work as editor-in-chief of the magazine GQ.
Personal life
Nelson received a B.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame. In American Studies. He and his partner, John Mario Sevilla, a dancer and choreographer, live in Brooklyn.
Early career
Nelson began his writing career in television, first working as a producer and writer at CNN and then on to Hollywood, where he briefly served as a writer's assistant on television sitcoms.
Nelson began a magazine as an intern at Harper's Magazine in 1994-2005, where he was responsible for the magazine's Readings section. His articles have also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Gourmet, and Food & Wine. In The Best American Sports Writing in 2001, his own writing for GQ was included.
