Britain's most expensive and cheapest places to buy or rent a home revealed

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 24, 2024
Aberdeen tops the list of the cheapest cities to be a first-time buyer while the most expensive is London. And for tenants, the cheapest city is Carlisle, while the most expensive is also London. For those who can afford to save a good sized deposit of at least 20 per cent, it is cheaper to pay a monthly mortgage than rent in each of the largest cities in Britain.

Mortgage rate rises announced by five lenders: HSBC, Barclays and NatWest all hiking interest

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 22, 2024
Five mortgage lenders have announced they are increasing rates in the latest blow to home buyers and anyone looking to remortgage. It comes as financial markets roll back on previous predictions surrounding interest rate cuts, with a 'higher for longer' scenario now appearing more likely.

Cost of privately renting homes rises by more than 9% in a year - the largest increase since records began - to an average of £1,246 per month to heap more cost-of-living pressure on families unable to get on the housing ladder

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 17, 2024
Across the UK, private rents increased by an estimated 9.2 per cent in the 12 months to March, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. This is up from 9 per cent in the 12 months to February - marking the highest annual increase since the UK data started in January 2015. The massive increase in rental costs comes at the same time as a fall in the cost of buying appears to be slowing.
