Career
Todd's writing was first inspired by One Direction's music and fandom, and musician Harry Styles is a model for the protagonist in her After series, under the name Hardin Scott. She started writing stories on her phone with the Wattpad app in 2013 and has been writing a chapter almost every day for more than a year. On Wattpad, Todd wrote three books in the After series.
Since both series were launched as fan fiction, the series has been sometimes compared to the Fifty Shades trilogy. "Hardin's character "behaves at best like a prick, at worst like an intimate boyfriend in the making," reviewers at Jezebel said.
Todd confirmed in 2015 that she would be publishing Before, a prequel book that tells the events of After from the perspective of Hardin Scott. In 2018, her next book, The Spring Girls, a re-telling of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, was published.
Paramount Pictures acquired film rights to the After series with Offspring Entertainment (Step Up franchise, Rock of Ages), which is scheduled to premiere in October 2014. Aviron Pictures eventually released the film, which was based on her first book, on April 12, 2019. Josephine Langford plays Tessa, the female protagonist, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin portrays Hardin, the male protagonist.
Todd founded her own imprint in 2021 in collaboration with Wattpad Books. The author's future books, as well as other writers' works, will be published in Frayed Pages. The imprint was revealed in November 2021, along with the news that After would be a graphic novel, which is expected to be published in May of next year.
Cosmopolitan announced the publication of Todd's latest book under her imprint in February 2022. The Falling, a rewritten version of one of her previous novels, The Brightest Stars, tells the tale of a young girl named Karina falling in love with Kael, a soldier fighting PTSD after three deployments in Afghanistan. The Burning and The Infinite Light of Dust are two more books in the series.
