Personal life
Morris met fellow country singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd while co-writing "Last Turn Home" for Tim McGraw. Their relationship began as friends. In December 2015, the pair began dating and announced their engagement in July 2017. The two were married on March 24, 2018, in Nashville, Tennessee. The couple then moved into a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Nashville, Tennessee with a wrap-around porch. Their first child, a son, was born on March 23, 2020.
Morris told Taste of Country that she suffered a difficult labor and was eventually given a C-section. This resulted in a challenging post-pregnancy for Morris. She recalled suffering from postpartum depression for nearly a year after giving birth. "I just wish I had done a better job at preparing myself for the shock of a C-section, because the postpartum of a C-section is so brutal," she commented.
Career
Morris started touring Texas when she was 11 years old. Her father acted as her boss and booking agent. Morris used to perform in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, where she competed in bars and clubs. "I had always enjoyed music as a weekend job," she explained, "the majority of my friends were going to slumber parties."
She made her first plane ride alone in 2005 to attend a Grammy camp. Morris was one of many high school students from around the country to attend the Grammy Foundation-sponsored camp. At music festivals, she's going to meet music industry insiders. Morris' debut studio album, Walk On, was released in 2005 when she was 15 years old. The album was released on the independent Mozzi Bozzi label and contained ten tracks of mostly self-written content. According to her mother Kellie Morris, her parents, who "actually sold the furniture out of the house," paid for the record's recording and release. In 2007, Smith Music released Morris' second studio album titled All That Takes. The project was similar to her first album in that it was mainly composed tracks.
Morris auditioned for a number of television music competition shows, including American Idol, America's Got Talent, The Voice, and Nashville Star in her late teens. After auditioning for all of the television shows, she was turned down. Morris' songs would be used by contestants on the program years later. Morris performed keyboards and provided harmony vocals in her teenage years. They Were Stars, a youth band, also performed keyboards and provided harmony vocals. Morris was briefly enrolled at the University of North Texas after graduating from high school but then dropped after a year. Live Wire, Mozzi Bozzi's third studio album, was released in 2011.
Kacey Musgraves, a friend she had first encountered on the Texas music scene, was on vacation during this period. Morris was encouraged to move by Musgraves, who was living in Nashville, Tennessee. Morris packed a U-Haul trailer and moved to Nashville after saving enough money. Morris spent her first year in Nashville networking and interacting with other writers. Carla Wallace of Big Yellow Dog Music was later introduced to her. Wallace, who was inspired by her songwriting, has signed a four-year contract with the company. She began co-writing with other songwriters. Multiple country artists' recordings of her music were soon released. Tim McGraw, who recorded "Last Turn Home" for his 2014 album Sundown Heaven Town, got us off the ground. Kelly Clarkson's album Piece by Piece on Piece in 2015 was also recorded on her album "Second Wind."
Some of Morris' songs were more personal, and Wallace encouraged her to start recording music herself. The track "My Church," which she wrote in March 2015, was one of her personal compositions. Morris decided she wanted to save the song for herself after listening to the demo tape. Busbee was also around this time when she first met him. Morris was captivated by Morris' writing and vocal performance, later remarking, "She was playing her own music and it was world class." I was freaked out, but in a good way."
Morris performed five songs on eponymous extended play Maren Morris, who later released five songs. In August 2015, Spotify announced it. In a month, the songs gained 2.5 million streams on Spotify, with three songs debuting on Spotify's "Viral 50" chart. Morris' EP attracted the attention of major labels, and she was hired to Columbia Nashville in September 2015. In November 2015, the label re-released the five-song EP. As the project's lead single, "My Church" was announced. The EP debuted at number 22 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and at number one on the Top Heatseekers chart, where it debuted at number 22 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and at number one.

It debuted on the Billboard 200 and ranked number one on the country albums chart at number five. Hero's Joe Caramanica of The New York Times said, "both utterly of its time and also savvy enough to indicate how the future will look." "I Could Use a Love Song" and "Rich" were three new singles from Hero: "80's Mercedes," "I Could Use a Love Song" and "I Could Use a Love Song" were three of Hero's "Rich" and "Chris." With the exception of "80's Mercedes," the singles made it to the top ten of the Billboard country charts between 2016 and 2018.
Morris embarked on a tour with Keith Urban in 2016. This was followed by her album's headlining "Hero" tour in 2017. In March 2017, a special version of Hero was released, with three new tracks included. In 2017, she appeared on Thomas Rhett's "Craving You" as a singer. Morris appeared on Niall Horan's pop song "Seeing Blind" in 2017 and then opened for Horan on his Flicker World Tour. Morris performed "Dear Hate," a song she had written and recorded with Vince Gill, with all proceeds from the sale going to the Music City Cares Fund in reaction to the 2017 Las Vegas shooting. Morris kept receiving accolades for her work, including the Country Music Association's "Best New Artist" award and a few more Grammy nominations.
Morris was chosen by Zedd and Grey to appear as the lead vocalist on their pop hit "The Middle" in 2018. Zedd travelled to Nashville to record Morris's part, and the album was released soon after. The song became her breakout pop crossover hit and widened her audience. "The Middle" debuted at number ten in the Billboard Hot 100 Top ten, with a peak at number five. Taylor Weatherby of Billboard said that the album "may have paved the way for a dependable new path to crossover triumph." Morris appeared as a special guest on Taylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour in Arlington, Texas, on October 5, 2018. Swift performed "The Middle" with Swift.
In March 2019, Morris' next studio album Girlfriend was announced. According to Morris, the project reflected her own experience as a young woman while also highlighting the lives of other women of the same age. Rolling Stone rated the album three and a half as "where Morris makes her pop move" on the album. The album debuted on the Billboard country charts chart and debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. To promote the album, she continued on Girl: The World Tour. Its lead single of the same name reached the number one spot on the Billboard country airplay chart and the number eight on the Billboard country songs chart. It was followed by the second single "The Bones" that debuted on both the Country Airplay and Country Songs charts in 2020. The Highwomen made their live debut in April 2019 at Loretta Lynn's 87th birthday concert, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." "Redesigning Women" was the first single from the group's self-titled debut album on July 19, 2019. In September 2019, the self-titled debut album from the group was released. The album debuted on Billboard 200 and ranked number one on the Country Chart in top ten and ranked one. Busbee died in September 2019. "This just doesn't seem fair." Busbee wrote on Twitter, "I will always love you and the songs and albums I was privileged to make with you."
Morris joined forces with husband Ryan Hurd on the single "Chasing After You," which debuted on Billboard's top-five list in 2021. She appeared on John Mayer's album "Last Train Home" on June 4, 2021, she was the featured guest vocalist. Morris' new single, "Circles Around This Town," was unveiled in January 2022. In March 2022, it was followed by the debut of her new studio album, Humble Quest. Greg Kurstin was the producer on this album. Humble Quest debuted on the Billboard country albums chart, ranked second and number 21 on the Billboard 200. Pitchfork gave it an 8.0 rating, describing it as "matter-of-factly masterful" on the site. Rolling Stone gave it 3.5 stars, calling it "fascinating" and "unresolved" on the program.
