Manuel Velasco Coello Life

Manuel Velasco Coello (born 7 April 1980) is a Mexican politician and a member of PVEM.

He served as the Governor of Chiapas from 2012 to 2018.

He was the first PVEM politician to become a governor.

Prior to his governorship, he served as a state deputy, Federal deputy and Senator, each time becoming the youngest person to ever hold such office.

Personal life

He is the son of Leticia Coello Garrido and José Manuel Velasco Siles and is married to actress and singer Anahí, with whom he has two sons.

He is the grandson of the former Governor of Chiapas, Manuel Velasco Suárez.

Life and career

Velasco was born in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas' capital, on April 7, 1980. In 2001, he was elected to the House of Chiapas, becoming the youngest person to be elected to the Chiapas state legislature.

In 2003, he was elected Deputy of the Mexican Congress' Chiapas' LIX Legislature, representing Chiapas. He became the youngest person to serve as a federal deputy at the age of 23. He resigned from Chamber to run for Senate after winning Chiapas' seat in the July elections. Velasco made a new history by becoming Mexico's youngest senator at the age of 26.

Velasco ran on a PRI-PVEM coalition ticket in 2012 and won, becoming Chiapas' governor later this year.

Velasco slapped one of his employees on December 9, 2014, a video of him being slapbed went viral. Velasco Coello is shown behind a mesh fence saluting people as a woman dressed in red pulls his arm and leads her to a young man walking behind him. The woman is asked to speak to his assistant, and the governor slaps the young man in the chest and, on foot, he is seen recriminating him as he follows Velasco. Velasco was coerced to apologise publicly.
