Luigi Boccherini Life

Ridolfo Boccherini (February 19, 1743 – May 28, 1805), an Italian composer and cellist of the Classical period, whose music preserved a courtly and galante style even as he progressed slightly from the leading European musical centers.

He is best known for a minuet from his String Quintet in E, Op.

No. 11, No. 5 (G 275), and the Cello Concerto in B flat major (G482).

The latter work had been known in the heavily modified version by German cellist and prolific arranger Friedrich Grützmacher, but it was only recently restored to its original form. Boccherini also produced several guitar quintets, including the "Fandango," which was inspired by Spanish music.

"Astonish repetition, an adoration for extended passages with fascinating textures but no musical line, an obsession with soft dynamics, a rare ear for sonority, and an unusually rich palette of introverted and mournful effects" are among Boccherini's musical styles. Many of his fellow biographers and admirers see his music in a new light, which is much appreciated.
