Johann David Wyss Life

['jo?han 'da?d 'vi?s]; May 28, 1743, Bern; January 11, 1818, Bern) Johann David Wyss (Der schweizerische Robinson) (1812). * As the father in the story taught important lessons to his children, it is said he was inspired by Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe but wanted to write a story from which his own children would learn. The Swiss Family Robinson was first published in German in 1812 and then translated to English two years later. It has since been one of the most popular books of all time. Johann Rudolf Wyss, a scholar who authored the Swiss national anthem, edited the book. * Johann Emmanuel Wyss, a second son, illustrated the book. * Johann Rudolf, who died at the age of 48, Johann David Wyss lived to the age of 74, not unlike his son Johann Rudolf, who died in 1818. Wyss has been described as a writer whose style was "particularly Christian and moral in tone."
