Liu Shishi (born 10 March 1987), also known as Cecilia Liu, is a Chinese actress who graduated from Beijing Dance Academy with a major in ballet.

She is best known for her role as Ruoxi in the Chinese time-travel drama Scarlet Heart. Liu is one of the New Four Dan Actresses.

Personal life

Liu Tianli, Liu Shishi's grandfather, was born in Wudi County, Shandong Province. He performed at Xihe drums and was known as the "Master of Drums" during his appearance.

Both parents were factory employees. Liu Shishi's mother died early due to health problems, but her father moved overseas to do company.

Liu registered her marriage with Scarlet Heart co-star Nicky Wu on January 20, 2015, and the reception took place in Bali, Indonesia, on March 20, 2016.

Liu's son was born on April 28, 2019.

Liu Shishi made her debut in the television drama series The Moon and the Wind (2005), having been trained in ballet at the Beijing Dance Academy. In one of her scenes, she included a portion of Swan Lake. She then appeared in the wuxia drama The Young Warriors (2006) and the shenmo television series The Fairies of Liaozhai (2007).

Liu graduated from Beijing Dance Academy in 2007 and was signed by Tangren Media, seamlessly changing her from a dancer to an actor. She appeared in The Legend of the Condor Heroes (2008), gaining her more fame.

Liu gained notoriety in 2009 after appearing in the hit fantasy action film Chinese Paladin 3; her role as Long Kui as a "gentle, kind, and understanding maiden" was praised by critics and followers.

Liu appeared in A Weaver on the Horizon, a historical drama based on Huang Daopo's life story. Liu initially played the lead female protagonist, but Liu later decided to portray princess Zhao Jiayi because her character's changes would put her acting into doubt.

Liu's popularity in 2011 soared even more thanks to two hit dramas. She appeared in The Vigilantes In Masks, a period drama that attracted critical acclaim and increased exposure for Liu. Ruoxi became the female protagonist in the time travel historical romance film, Scarlet Heart, based on Tong Hua's novel Bu Bu Jing Xin. Scarlet Heart was a big sleeper hit in China and burgeoning in East Asia. Liu, who was then a rising actress, was forced to fame. Liu received numerous accolades at local award-giving bodies for her appearance, including Most Popular Actress awards at the China Television Drama Awards and Shanghai Television Festival.

Liu then concentrated her attention on the big screen; she made her debut in The Next Miracle, directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Zhuo Liu. Sad Fairy Tale and A Moment of Love were two other films that she directed, as well as A Moment of Love.

Liu appeared in the fantasy action drama Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky, which was based on the same name. The series dominated television ratings and gained 2 billion views online, becoming the 9th drama in Hunan TV's broadcast history to achieve that record. Liu's burgeoning success in 2011 and 2012 with the help of Xuan-Yuan Sword, which made her the "Golden Eagle Goddess" at the 9th China Golden Eagle TV Art Festival. Liu was also selected as one of the new Four Dan Actresses by Southern Metropolis Daily, alongside Angelababy, Yang Mi, and Ni Ni Ni.

Liu appeared in the action comedy Badges of Fury with Jet Liu in 2013. She appeared in Brotherhood of Blades, a Taiwanese film that attracted critical notice. Liu was nominated for Best Actress at the China Film Directors' Guild Awards for her role.

Liu returned to the small screen in 2014 with the novel Sound of the Desert, based on Tong Hua's book Ballad of the Desert. The series dominated television and internet ratings nationally, and it was also well-received in Europe. Liu appeared in the romance film Five Minutes to Tomorrow in dual roles. Haruma Miura and Joseph Chang co-starred in the 19th Busan International Film Festival for the premiere of the film, where she was honoured with the Asia Star Award.

Liu's historical drama The Imperial Doctress, based on Tan Yunxian's life, a prominent female physician during China's Ming Dynasty, was a hit during the Ming Dynasty. Liu received the Most Influential Actress award at the 1st China Television Drama Quality Ceremony for her role, leading television ratings and receiving rave reviews.

Liu starred in The Battle at Dawn, a spy drama produced by the Ministry of Public Safety, in 2017. Ming Dao played a young single mother in a romance melodrama Angelo for the first year. Liu appeared in historical fantasy drama Lost Love in Times with William Chan, as well as the crime suspense film The Liquidator, in which she appeared as a palaeoichnology specialist.

Liu appeared in the romance melodrama If I Can Love You So With Tong Dawei in 2019. In 2016, the series had completed filming. She announced her return to Dear Myself, a female-centric modern drama, in the same year.
