Personal life
Williams has been identified by the name Sanjay, which he has had since he was a teenager. He and his Welsh model wife Sophie Harries have been together since 2015. They were married in a stunning ceremony on July 30th 2022. Williams has discussed his stammer, which was exacerbated by the pressures of conducting press interviews. Williams has sought therapy to address this, and he has conducted more interviews since. Williams is best known for his unusual running style, which results from his legs' bowing. Following doctors' advice that doing so might end his career, he hasn't changed his results and hasn't been ruled out.
Club career
He was not chosen by any of the Welsh regional professional academies, and thus aged 16 began working as a trainee scaffolder at Port Talbot Steelworks, despite continuing to play for Waunarlwydd.
Aged 20 Williams was signed by Scarlets in 2010–11 at Llanelli RFC, making his debut against Carmarthen Quins in March 2010. Williams made his Scarlets regional debut against Connacht on September 10, 2011; his first attempt in the away loss to Benetton Rugby on October 1, 2011 was then scored. Williams had a dream first season with the Scarlets, scoring 40 points in 26 appearances. His performances earned him to be nominated for the LV Breakthrough Player Award, and the Scarlets' Player of the Year was chosen.
Williams was named Wales Player of the Year after a string of superb performances for both Scarlets and Wales during 2014.
Williams was instrumental in the Scarlets' victory in the 2017 Pro12 Grand Final, the first national championship win since 2004. This included waiting for the first time in the final against Munster, with Scarlets eventually defeating the Aviva Stadium 22-46 winners.
Williams will be joining Aviva Premiership Saracens in England on a three-year deal starting in 2017. Williams helped Saracens win both the Premiership and the European Rugby Champions Cup in the 2018-19 season. Williams had a try in the Premiership final against Exeter.
