Brodie Allan Retallick (born 31 May 1991) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer who currently plays for the All Blacks in international rugby, as well as the Chiefs in Super Rugby, having started his career in rugby by playing for the Hawke's Bay Magpies in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Career
In the 2010 and 2011 ITM Cup, Retallick appeared for the Hawkes Bay Magpies.

Retallick spent his time with the Chiefs for the 2012 Super Rugby season, and by the time, he had been a regular starter for the Chiefs. He appeared in the Super Rugby Final on August 4th, with the Chiefs winning over the Sharks 36-0.
On June 9, 2012, the All Blacks' debut for the All Blacks was against Ireland during their tour of New Zealand. Retallick got off to a good start on his debut, alongside Sam Whitelock, a locking combination that has been used by the All Blacks on a regular basis since Retallick's debut, which resulted in a 42–10 victory for New Zealand. In the 2012 Rugby Championship, Retallick appeared in every match for the All Blacks, whether from the bench or beginning, and he spent 13 games for the national team in total.
In the 2013 Final, he started for the Chiefs. Retallick stepped up his workload for the All Blacks by playing another 11 tests during the year, and he was a regular starter for the All Blacks by the time the 2013 Rugby Championships were announced, with Luke Romano suffering with injury. He regained his place in the team on September 14, 2013, winning the Man of the Match award against South Africa. The All Blacks defeated South Africa 29-15, with Retallick scoring in the 22nd minute, his first international career, and playing the full 80 minutes.
He was an automatic pick for the All Blacks by 2014 when he was first drafted. Retallick appeared in 12 tests for the All Blacks in 2014 and received the World Rugby Player of the Year award and the Kelvin R Tremain award for the best New Zealand-based player of the year.
After a string of good results for the Both Blacks and the Chiefs, Retallick was selected by head coach Steve Hansen as one of 31 players for New Zealand's squad for the 2015 World Cup. Retallick did a good job during the tournament, earning him a starting spot against France on October 17th. In the 11th minute, Retallick scored the first time against France in the 11th minute and the full 80 minutes of the quarter-finals. Retallick was a full 80 minutes of both the semi-finals, a 20–18 victory over South Africa, and the final, where the All Blacks defeated Australia 34–17, becoming the first team to win three Rugby World Cups.
Following a concussion caused by Dean Mumm elbowing him, Retallick was put off in Auckland toward the end of the last Bledisloe Cup test against Australia on October 22nd, 2016. On the end of year tour, Retallick skipped a test against Ireland. The first test against Ireland in Chicago was Retallick's first test of the year. Retallick returned to test rugby with a strong showing off the bench against Italy, 68–10 victory over Italy, and he returned to his starting position against Ireland in Dublin on November 19, 2016. With a 21–9 victory, New Zealand defeated Ireland in the second test.
In 2017, Retallick was chosen as one of the 33 All Blacks to face Samoa and the touring British & Irish Lions. After captain Ben Smith was subbed off for debutant Jordie Barrett, Retallick assumed the captainship of Samoa for the final 20 minutes of the 78-0 thrashing of Samoa. Retallick was certainly the best performing New Zealander in the Lions series, defeating the Lions in all three tests of the drawn series, ending on 8 July with a 15-15 deadlock.
Retallick had been on a trial with Argentina in Buenos Aires for the 2017 Rugby Championship, so he was largely inactive. Retallick did not play in 2017 again after the previous match, but he beat South Africa, where he scored his fourth test attempt due to personal reasons. Following Retallick's personal health, Patrick Tuipulotu was called to the All Blacks. In Retallick's absence, rookie lock Scott Barrett became a regular starter for the All Blacks.
Retallick returned to rugby for the Chiefs in 2018 and scored the first double of his Super Rugby career, beating the Bulls 41-28, enabling the Chiefs to defeat the Bulls 41–28. He finished the game with six attempts (second-most in the Chiefs for the season).
Due to a pectoral injury, Retallick was unable to participate in the 2018 series against France. Retallick was re-selected for the 2018 Rugby Championship by Retallick. Retallick was brought into the squad for the 2018 end-of-year tour, where he appeared in four tests. In the third Bledisloe Cup test, Sam Whitelock was recalled from the bench against Australia, winning by 37-20. Scott Barrett was then recalled by Retallick for the tests against England and Ireland. In a narrow 16-15 victory over England, Retallick was Man of the Match, with England back-row Sam Underhill denied a winning try.
Despite being the best player on the field against England, Retallick was unable to play in the same way the next week, on November 17th, 2018. Ireland defeated the All Blacks on the day, with Retallick's performance in their 9-16 loss. Retallick's season came to an end against Italy, where he recalled Scott Barrett off the bench in a 66–3 victory.
Sam Cane, Retallick's injured All Blacks teammate, was named as the Chiefs' co-captain. Although the Chiefs struggled throughout the season, Retallick recovered from injury to lead the team's playoffs.
Retallick performed two tests during the test after being included in New Zealand's squad for the 2019 Rugby Championships. Retallick scored his fifth test try against Argentina in a scrappy 20-16 win, but he was forced to return to South Africa the following week after dislocating his shoulder during the 16–16 draw. Retallick was revived by Hurricanes loose forward Valianta Fifita, but she was not hurt, but he wasn't injured badly. In Retallick's absence, Blues Captain Patrick Tuipulotu became a regular starter.
All Blacks Head Coach Steve Hansen named Retallick as one of 31 players in New Zealand's squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup on August 28th. Despite being recuperating from his shoulder injury, Retallick's second World Cup appearance was expected. Retallick appeared in all four tests he played during the World Cup, including the playoffs.
