Liam Moore Career

Club career

Moore began his football career in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and joined the club when he was eight years old and his boyhood team were established. Moore was captain of the youth team that advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2010–11 FA Youth Cup. During the 2010-11 season, he appeared twice as an ineffective substitute for the first team. Moore graduated in 2011 by the summer of 2011.

Moore signed a one-month loan agreement with Bradford City on August 5, 2011. He made his senior debut on August 6, 2011, defeating Aldershot Town 2–1. Moore made an immediate impact for the club as he lost his first position in his remaining months. Moore's expressed his desire to remain with Bradford City at the end of the initial month's term, and his loan was later extended until December 31, 2011. Following the close of his loan agreement on December 31, 2011, Moore returned to his parent club. Moore's Bradford loan ended with 22 appearances to his name.

Moore made his Leicester debut two days later, against Crystal Palace on January 2nd 2012. He signed a two-week deal with the club on January 19, 2012, extending his contract until 2013. He didn't get off to a good start for Leicester City on April 28, 2012, helping them beat Leeds United 2–1.

Moore changed number shirt to twenty-two ahead of the 2012–13 season. He appeared in the first six matches of the 2012–13 season before being suspended for two matches. Moore was recruited by Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Aston Villa in the 2012–13 season, becoming a first-team regular. In September 2012, he began a new three-year deal with the club. Moore came back to the first team after being a 28th-minute replacement in a 2–1 victory over Middlesbrough on September 28. Anthony Knockaert, who scored twice in a 2–0 victory, set up a goal for him in a follow-up match against Huddersfield Town. Moore soon found himself on the bench, making just two appearances before being loaned out to Brentford.

Moore joined Brentford on loan from February 20th, 2013-2013. In a 2–1 victory over Crawley Town on February 26, 2013, he made his Brentford debut, starting the entire game. Despite suffering from an ankle injury along the way, Moore became the team's first regular. He made seven appearances during his recall by his parent club.

After being recalled from a loan spell at Brentford, he was sent to Leicester on March 30th, 2013 to serve as cover during club captain Wes Morgan's suspension. Moore made his first appearance for the team after being loaned out on Saturday against Barnsley, losing 2–0. He made two more appearances for the team in the Championship Play-Offs after the club lost.

Moore converted the number shirt to eighteen ahead of the 2013–14 season. He regained his first team position during the 2013–14 season by starting a center-back partnership with Wes Morgan and then transitioning to a right-back role. Moore scored his first senior goal for Leicester City on September 14, 2013, scoring the opener in an eventual 2–0 home win over Wigan Athletic. For his outstanding performances early in the 2013–14 season, he was named the Football League Young Player of the Month for September 2013. Moore has praised team captain Wes Morgan and boss Nigel Pearson for their increased form.

He was the subject of transfer requests from Premier League club Fulham in January 2014. Moore sustained a rib injury and was suspended in the 9th minute as a result during a 1–0 victory over Middlesbrough on January 25, 2014. However, he returned to the first team against Nottingham Forest on February 22, 2014, as a 64th-minute replacement in a 2–2 draw. Moore found himself on the bench after returning from injury, but he was only on the squad for five games in the 2013-2014 season. Despite this, Leicester City's contributions to the city saw them promoted to the Premier League. He was nominated for the Young Player of the Year award by the Football League for his career, making thirty-three appearances in all sports, but lost out to Will Hughes.

Moore stayed with the club until 2017. He made his Premier League debut on Wednesday in Leicester's opening day, playing the entirety of a 2–2 draw at home against Everton on August 16, 2014. Moore then began competing in the next eight league matches for the team. However, he was cut from the first team and was placed on the bench as a substitute. Moore was also concerned about his own injury along the way.

Moore joined Brentford on loan until the end of the 2014–15 season on February 26, 2015. He stepped straight into the starting lineup, disapproving Harlee Dean, before being forced to leave the squad in favour of Dean after three "stuttering" appearances. Moore was recalled to King Power Stadium on May 2nd but he didn't appear again and was recalled to the King Power Stadium.

Moore made his only appearance of the 2015-16 season for Leicester City, defeating Bury in the second round of the League Cup at Gigg Lane, losing 4–1. However, his first team opportunities were limited once more due to strong competitions within the defense industry.

Moore signed on a Bristol City loan from September 1st to January 4th, 2016. In a 4–2 loss to Birmingham City on September 12, he made his debut for the club, starting a game and playing 63 minutes before being called off. Moore was both in and out of the starting lineup for Bristol City on his debut, despite being sidelined along the way. After making ten appearances for Bristol City, he rejoined his parent club.

Following his loan spell with Bristol City coming to an end, he made no further appearances for the club until Leicester's Premier League trophy presentation on Saturday, making him eligible for a winner's award. (A minimum of five league games is required). Moore said later in an interview with The Atlantic: "It would have taken just five appearances to win a winners' medal, and that medal I would have treasured for ever." I remember crying, trying to mask my pain, but then I said I'd be back to normal for this. It was so frustrating, but it was so eye-opening. It will be an amazing day but it would be a challenging day in my career. My family was coming and everybody was adamant that I had played a part in the event. I was fantastic during the game (a 3-1 victory over Everton), but it was painful when I wasn't on the podium — I hadn't played a single minute in the league (for Leicester) that season. And now, the Premier League champions are... Leicester City," they said, and Wes lifted the trophy, one of the best and worst feelings in my life. "I had just watched my boyhood club, which means so much to me, become champions," I discovered, but "some of the decisions I had made in the previous year had cost me the privilege of being involved."

Moore agreed to a four-year deal with Reading on August 20, 2016, ensuring a permanent departure from Leicester. The move was estimated to be an undisclosed fee but later learned that it was actually £1.5 million. Leicester City wanted him to stay, but he left Reading for Reading.

Moore started the entire game against Milton Keynes in the second round of the League Cup, and went on to win 4–2 in the penalty shootout. In a 1–0 victory over Cardiff City on August 27, the club made his league debut by retaining a clean sheet. Moore landed himself in the starting eleven after making his club debut, as he competed in the center-back position alongside Paul McShane. Between the 22nd of October 2016 and the 19th of November 2016, he had four straight clean sheets. Moore played in every match until he was suspended for one match due to picking up five yellow cards this season so far. Despite this, Brian Tevreden, Reading's technical director, lauded his contributions. Moore scored his first goal for Reading against Blackburn Rovers on December 17, 2016. However, he sustained a hamstring injury in the 50th minute and was suspended as a result during a 0–0 draw against Newcastle United on March 7, 2017. Moore returned to his first team position for the remainder of the season and helped Reading win the playoffs at the end of his first season with them, as his name was given in the BBC Sport article. He then appeared on both legs of the semi-final Championship play-offs against Fulham, where the club defeated Fulham 21-01 on aggregate. Moore started the game against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Championship play-off final, and there were two Reading players to miss the shootout, resulting in the opposition team being promoted to the Premier League.

Moore agreed to a new four-year deal with Reading on August 2nd, 2017 in the lead-up to the 2017-18 season. He returned to his first team position in the 2017–18 season, alongside Tiago Ilori and McShane, in the center-back position. Moore won by 2–1 over Aston Villa on August 15, 2017, setting up the club's second goal of the season. In a 2–1 loss against Norwich City on September 30, 2017, he scored his first goal of the season. His performance earned him Player of the Month for September. Moore hadn't scored his second goal of the season on November 4, 2017 in a 4–2 victory over Derby County. In a 2–2 draw against Bolton Wanderers two weeks later, he scored his third goal of the season. Against Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley, he was followed by two clean sheets in a row. His performance attracted attention from clubs keen to sign him in the January transfer window, but no one was interested. Reading struggled to finish 20th in the league table this season, with only three points of relegation. Despite this, Moore was given three more times, including Player of the Season.

Moore missed the first two league games of the 2018-19 season due to rumors regarding his future at Reading. In a 2–0 victory over Birmingham City in the first round of the League Cup, despite his release from the club, he made his first appearance of the 2018-19 season, starting the whole game and receiving the armband. Moore captained Reading in his 100th appearance for the team in a 1–1 draw against Aston Villa on August 25, 2018. On August 31, 2018, he signed a player contract extension, keeping him until 2023. Moore scored his first goal of the season on the day against Sheffield Wednesday in a 2–1 loss. Since returning to the first team, he continued to play in the center-back position, as well as being captain after McShane's injury. Moore did not recover until he was knocked out of four matches. In a 1–0 loss against Millwall, it wasn't until December 26th, 2018, that he returned to the starting lineup as captain. Moore's return was short-lived after he sustained an injury once more, resulting in the suspension of two games. In a 2–0 loss against Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup, he was back in the starting lineup as captain. Moore continued to help Reading keep two clean sheets, including against Aston Villa and Sheffield on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2019. Following a 4–0 loss to Sheffield United on February 15, he apologized to the club's followers, who traveled to Yorkshire. Moore helped Reading avoid relegation for the second time by finishing 20th in the league for the second time.

Moore was appointed Reading's captain early in the 2019-20 season. He began his first team position, playing in the center-back position, as well as captaining the club. Moore was at fault when his mistimed back pass resulted in Tom Cairney's goal during a 4–1 loss to Fulham on October 1, 2019. He acknowledged the criticism during the match and promised to assume responsibility as captain. Moore was playing in the middle of the field against Bristol City in a follow-up match as Reading lost 1–0. However, he sustained a shoulder injury during his 150th appearance for the club on November 2nd, which saw him suspended in the 58th minute. In a 3–0 victory over Luton Town on November 8, Moore made a quick recovery and returned to the starting line-up. He then helped Reading keep four straight clean sheets between December 14 and December 29, 2019. Moore started in every match until he missed one match due to sickness and returned on March 7, 2020, as an 81st-minute replacement against Birmingham City in a 3-1 victory. Moore continued as a first-team regular, and by the time the season was ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had played in 36 league appearances. Moore remained an integral part of the team even after being moved to the substitute bench along the way. In a 2–1 loss, he returned to midfield against Middlesbrough on July 14, 2020, scoring his first goal of the season.

Moore was suspended as a Club Captain on January 15, 2022, after stating his desire to leave the team.

Moore joined Stoke City on loan for the remainder of the 2021–22 season on January 31, 2022. He made six appearances for Stoke before suffering a season-ending lateral ligament injury in preparation.

In a 3–0 victory over Qatar, he made his England U20 debut, playing the entire game in the Toulon Tournament's first game. Moore continued to make four appearances for the England U20 team.
