Lesley Ann Manville (born 12 March 1956) is a British actress known for her frequent collaborations with filmmaker Mike Leigh in Leigh's All or Nothing (2002) and Another Year (2010), as well as the National Board of Review Award for Best Actress for the latter film.

Early life
Manville was born in Brighton, East Sussex, the daughter of Jean, a former ballet dancer, and Ron Manville, a taxi driver. She was born in Hove, the youngest of three children. She started training as a soprano singer from age 8, and she was the Sussex champion twice under the age of 18. She began acting as a child in television series such as King Cinder. She gained a spot at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts at age 15.

Career
Arlene Phillips, a decline, had been invited to join her new dance company Hot Gossip, where Julia Carey taught improvisation. She made her West End debut in 1972's musical I and Albert, directed by John Schlesinger, and paid for her first apartment by participating in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale Farm (1974–76), which aired in 80 episodes.
Manville developed a reputation as a distinctive theatre actress, appearing in new productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Warehouse and Royal Court Theatre from 1978. She met Mike Leigh in 1979, when he was searching for RSC actors who could imitate. Rita, Sue and Bob Too (1981) and Caryl Churchill's Top Girls (1987) and Serious Money (1987).
