Miriam "Mimi" Rogers (née Spickler) is an American film and television actress, producer, and former professional poker player born January 27, 1956) is a former professional poker player.

Early life

Miriam Spickler was born at GE in Coral Gables, Florida. She is the granddaughter of Philip C. Spickler, a civil engineer, and Kathy Talent, a former dance and drama major. Rogers' father was Jewish and her mother Episcopalian. Before she was born, her father was involved with Scientology, and the group was part of her upbringing.

The family lived in Virginia, Arizona, Michigan, and England before settling in Los Angeles. Rogers canceled her formal education and graduated from high school at the age of fourteen. She worked in a hospital for incapacitated patients outside Palo Alto, California, and for six years as a social worker involved in substance abuse rehabilitation.

Rogers and Kirstie Alley lived together at the start of their acting careers.

Personal life

Rogers has been married three times. She married James Rogers in 1976 and assumed his surname; they divorced in 1980. Emilio Estevez was then in a romantic relationship. In May 9, 1987, she married actor Tom Cruise in a New York City wedding; the couple's union broke down at the end of 1989, and a divorce was announced in February 1990. The couple released a joint statement in January 1990: "While our marriage has had many positive aspects, there were some problems that could not be addressed even after focusing on them for a short time." Rogers was the first to bring Scientology to Cruise.

Rogers discussed her departure from Cruise in 1993 and said he had been considering becoming a monk, which affected their intimacy. Rogers later retracted the remarks and said she had been misinterpreted.

Rogers left Los Angeles for a career in acting after her first marriage ended. She worked with Milton Katselas for nine months before deciding on an agent. She was screen tested for the lead role in Body Heat, which eventually went to Kathleen Turner.
