Leeza Gibbons Career

Career

Leeza Gibbons' television work began at WSPA-TV in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She then co-anchored PM Magazine in Beaumont, Texas, and then moved to sister station WFAA-TV in Dallas. The new role represented a big career change and attracted media notice.

Gibbons began with WCBS-TV in New York City, where she became a host on Two on the Town, which was modeled after PM Magazine. Robb Weller was her co-host. Both of them joined Entertainment Tonight, with Gibbons as a reporter and co-anchor of the program's weekend edition.

Gibbons collaborated with Guthy-Renker in the early to mid-1990s, becoming a trailblazer in the world of direct response. She was the first television actress to be included in an infomercial as she appeared in back-to-back blockbusters (Personal Power 2 and Get the Edge) with a young Tony Robbins.

Leeza appeared on NBC/syndicated talk shows from June 1993 to September 2000; she was the host of her own NBC/syndicated talk show. Former Entertainment Tonight co-host John Tesh introduced the show as John & Leeza from Hollywood. Tesh was taken from the show after seven months, but Gibbons took the majority of the series.

Gibbons appeared on Extra from 2001-2003 as the host and managing editor. She appeared on PBS' My Generation (2011–2014) and co-host and executive producer of the syndicated news magazine show America Now (2011–2015).

Gibbons hosted the radio show Blockbuster Top 25 Countdown with Leeza Gibbons in the 1990s. She ranked down the hits in Adult Contemporary and Hot Adult Contemporary formats, as well as entertainment news and pre-recorded interviews. The show's name was changed to Leeza Gibbons' Top 25 Countdown when Blockbuster Video stopped funding the program in 1999. The countdown was discontinued in January 2001 and Leeza Gibbons' Hollywood Confidential was renamed; the series continued until 2013.

Gibbons was given the Congressional Horizon Award (1998) for her work on children's issues in 1998.

Gibbons launched Sheer Cover Studio, a mineral makeup line, in the early 2000s, with Guthy-Renker. Sheer Cover continues to be available around the world.

Gibbons received the American Academy of Neurology's Public Leadership in Neurology Award in 2005 for raising concerns about Alzheimer's disease.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the appointment of Gibbons to the board that oversees California's stem cell research organization on November 14, 2007, filling a position open for a patient advocate for Alzheimer's. Leeza's Place, a non-profit organization, is aimed at caregivers for people with memory difficulties. Her attempts to raise funds for memory issues arose from her own family's encounter with her mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and died in May 2008.

On June 23-27, 2008, Gibbons replaced Meredith Vieira for a week of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Take Your Oxygen First: Protecting Your Health and Happiness When Caring for a Loved One with Memory Loss, Leeza's family's battle with Alzheimer's disease began in May 2009.

Gibbons received the PBS Family Award for Outstanding Lifestyle/Travel Host for his PBS series My Generation in 2013. She appeared on the NBC reality game show Celebrity Apprentice in 2015.

On January 2, 2017, she began co-hosting the Rose Parade. Gibbons was given the Icon award from the Electronic Retailing Association in 2015, where it was announced that Gibbons had hit the $1 billion mark in sales. Guthy-Renker's collaboration is the longest studio/talent relationship in infomercial history.

Gibbons has married four times; she was married to John Hicks from 1980 to 1982. She was married to British actor Christopher Quinten, whom she first met when they both appeared in the 1988 New Zealand Telethon from 1989 to 1991. Jordan Alexandra (Lexi) Gibbons, she and Quinten have a daughter. Leeza Gibbons was married to actor Stephen Meadows from 1991 to 2005, and the two sons, Troy and Nathan Daniel, are married. In 2011, she married Steven Fenton, the New York Times top selling author, in Beverly Hills. Frank M. Fenton, the son of Beverly Hills' former mayor, is the son of his uncle.

Gibbons, a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church, was baptized there, and all of her children were baptized there.
