Laurie Brett Life

Laurie Brett (born 28 March 1969) is a Scottish actress best known for her appearances as Jane Beale in EastEnders and Christine Mulgrew in Waterloo Road.

Early and personal life

Brett was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland, and studied at the London Studio Centre. She is a natural speaker of Spanish. Brett has admitted to being a bit of a wild child in her youth, and has been drinking heavily for 20 years.

Brett has a Scottish accent, but she also adopted a London accent when heading to London, which is appropriate for her EastEnders job. She claims she has always had a "knack" for accents, and has confessed to it before arriving in Waterloo Road that speaking with a Scottish accent made it very useful when people inquired if she was Jane from EastEnders. She has confessed that when she was asked the question, she would respond in her native Scottish accent, and people immediately assumed she were mistaken.

Brett had been in a six-year friendship with musician Dave Evans. The couple met on a blind date in 2001 and proposed; however, they fell in 2007 shortly before the wedding. Brett revealed in January 2011 that she was pregnant with her first child. Erin Anne Millie Brett was born in June 2011.
