Andrea Hope Elson (born March 6, 1969) is an American actress.

Elson, who began her career as a child actress and model, is perhaps best known for her television appearances; she appeared on CBS science fiction adventure series Whiz Kids as Alice Tyler and as Lynn Tanner on the NBC comedy series ALF, which earned her two Youth in Film Award nominations in 1986 and 1989.

Elson was born in New York City on March 6, 1969. Samantha (born circa 1966) grew up in New York City with her parents and an older sister named Samantha. The family lived in San Diego, California, for a period of four years before returning to Westchester County, New York, when Elson was still a child.

Career

Elson began her career as a child actor and model, appearing in a number of commercials and print ads. While living in San Diego, she appeared in several community theatre productions as a child.

Elson made her television debut in 1983 after relocating with her family to Los Angeles, and she appeared on CBS mystery-adventure's Whiz Kids. Alice Tyler, co-starring Matthew Laborteaux, Todd Porter, and Jeffrey Jacquet, portrayed a group of teenage detectives who solve crimes and bring criminals to justice with the help of a talking computer on the series.

Although Whiz Kids was only one season, Alice Elson's role as Alice made the 14-year-old and her teenage co-stars as regular fixtures in the various teen magazines of the period, including 16 magazine, Bop, and Teen Beat among others. Elson and the remainder of the teen Whiz Kids cast made a crossover appearance on Simon & Simon's 1983 film "Fly the Alibi Skies."

Elson appeared in 1986 on NBC science-fiction situation comedy ALF. Lynn Tanner, the teenage daughter in a typical middle-class suburban family who adopts a friendly extraterrestrial performed by puppeteer Paul Fusco, was the protagonist on the series. The series lasted four seasons, and Elson's portrayal received two Youth in Film Award nominations before the show's cancellation in 1990.

Elson continued to appear on a variety of television shows, including Who's the Boss?, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, ABC Afterschool Special, Married... with Children, Mad About You, Step by Step, and The Young and the Restless, as well as appearing in the television series Class Cruise and Frankenstein: The College Years.

Elson was teaching yoga as a student as of 2008.
