Early life
Kwabs was born in London and raised in Bermondsey, London Borough of Southwark, to Ghanaian parents. Kwabs was welcomed to the National Youth Jazz Orchestra by his music teacher Xanthe Sarr and the conductor of the Southwark Youth Orchestra. He was the orchestra's lead singer for four years after being accepted into the program. He studied jazz at the Royal Academy of Music as well as jazz.
Career
Kwabs appeared on the BBC television show Goldie's Band in 2011. By Royal Appointment of Drum-and-Bass musician Goldie, a UK national platform to seek for young talent, and one of twelve artists selected to create some musical works for a special performance at Buckingham Palace. Kwabs appeared in a 2011 performance of "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child."
He commissioned cover versions of Corinne Bailey Rae's "Like a Star" and "The Wilhelm Scream" by James Blake in 2012. On YouTube, the Kwabs version went viral. With critical acclaim, he signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records, collaborating with a number of artists on his debut EP Wrong or Right.
The subsequent EPs Pray for Love and Walk EP have a more pop-oriented feel, with Walk EP featuring Kwabs' best-known track "Walk," which was released on Atlantic Records on October 5th. It was a minor success in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 71, but Germany, Austria, and Switzerland followed it. It was also ranked number one on the iTunes Music charts.
Kwabs' album "Perfect Ruin" was released in April 2015, and his debut studio album Love & War debuted on September 11, 2015.
