Life and career

Blue was born in Glendale, Arizona, on January 15, 1990, to Ernest Blue Jr. and Janice Blue-Williams. He is the youngest of seven children. When he was ten years old, the family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. At the age of 3, Blue started singing in church. Blue began preaching at Peace and Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was ordained at the age of 15. He was eventually ordained as a worship leader in the Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He formed the Blue Brothers with his siblings and appeared on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel Show from very early on. In 2015, he won the Voice-Off Knoxville competition. He toured locally, as well as in England, The Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Virgin Islands. Blue was also a student at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was active in the campus worship ministry and the campus gospel choir.

In 2017, Blue auditioned for season 12 of The Voice. He sang "The Tracks of My Tears" from The Miracles in the blind auditions on March 14, 2017, and he was the first competitor to appear in the Blind Auditions on episode 7 of the auditions. Alicia Keys was the only judge in her squad with a seat in her team, and she chose Blue. Blue joined Team Alicia by default.

He claimed the title against Lauren Duski, Blake Shelton's finalist, who came in runner-up.
