Kriti Sanon Career

Career

Sanon made her acting debut in 2014 with Sukumar's Telugu psychological thriller 1: Nenokkadine as Mahesh Babu's love interest. Critics gave the film mixed feedback. Sanon "looks pretty" and "acts well," according to a writer for The Times of India. Although a reviewer for Sify said she "looks stunning" and that her performance was "okay" for a newcomer. She had been nominated for the Best Female Debut – Telugu, by the SIIMA Awards. Sanon made her Hindi cinema debut in Sabbir Khan's action film Heropanti opposite newcomer Tiger Shroff in the same year. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, received a mixed reception at the premiere, but it was a box office hit that earned 726 million (US$9.1 million) worldwide. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama wrote that she "looks stunning and acts with humour and enthusiasm" as well as the fact that she "has the trappings of a celebrity" and that she "has the trappings of a star," according to her. The Times of India's Srijana Dash of a celebrity condemned her emoting, saying it is "more cheesy than sharp." Sanon received the Best Female Debut Award and the IIFA Award for Female Debut of the Year (Female) for her role as herself.

Sanon debuted in her second Telugu film, Sudheer Varma's crime drama Dohchay, co-starring Naga Chaitanya. Varun Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kajol were the first actress in Rohit Shetty's action comedy Dilwale, which broke multiple box office records to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, grossing more than 3.7 billion (US$47 million) worldwide. Anupama Chopra disliked the film and wrote that Sanon and Dhawan "work as bait, aimed at the young audience."

Sanon teamed up with Maddock Films producer Dinesh Vijan for the first of many collaborations in his debut film Raabta, which featured her and Sushant Singh Rajput as star-crossed lovers who were reborn after a year absence from film. Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com dubbed the film "embarrassingly daft," but she took note of Sanon's "statuesque, spirited presence" in a scathing review. Both critically and commercially, the film failed. In Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's romantic comedy Bareilly Ki Barfi, Sanon's subsequent role as a spirited rural Indian woman who aspires to a better life was much appreciated. In the film, which was an adaptation of French writer Nicholas Barreau's novel The Ingredients of Love, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao appeared opposite her. "The burden of making Bareilly Ki Barfi jobs rests upon Kriti Sanon, and she doesn't put a foot wrong," Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV said, but Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express noticed that despite Sanon's efforts, her performance lacked naturalism. Her sole appearance in 2018 was with the promotional music video of the song "Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe," which appeared on the soundtrack of Vijan-produced Stree, a horror-comedy written by filmmakers Raj & D.K. In their debut, the company was released.

In 2019, Sanon joined Vijan in two films, the first of which was cinematographer Laxman Utekar's Hindi directorial debut Luka Chuppi, a satire on live-in couples, paired her opposite Kartik Aaryan. "Sanon is spontaneous throughout and appears to be finding her feet in comedy, having a balla time doing it all in the process," Devesh Sharma of Filmfare said. Luka Chuppi's international sales success earned them $1.29 billion (US$16 million). She appeared in Rohit Jugraj's comedy Arjun Patiala, starring Diljit Dosanjh, which saw her play the titular role of a journalist with a box office bomb; it was a box office bomb. The fourth installment of the Housefull franchise, featuring her as both a princess and the daughter of a wealthy businessman, as well as actress Akshay Kumar in Nadiadwala-produced Kalank. Housefull 4 was a huge success, grossing over 2.8 billion (US$35 million). In Ashutosh Gowariker's period drama Panipat, which was based on a box-office bomb that debuted as a box-office bomb, she played Parvatibai opposite Arjun Kapoor's Sadashivrao Bhau for her final appearance of the year. "Kriti Sanon shines even in a modest role," India Today said. Both in grief and joy, her eyes welled up. "Kriti Sanon is very confident and gives an excellent show," Bollywood Hungama wrote.

Sanon reunited with Vijan and Utekar in the comedy-drama Mimi (2021), which turned out to be a turning point in her career after a year absence from television. It was a remake of the National Film Award-winning 2011 Marathi drama Mala Aai Vhhaychy! On Netflix and JioCinema, the film was released digitally. "Sanon gives a very funny appearance," Taran Adarsh wrote. This is certainly her most impressive show, and she is certain to receive adoration from all quarters." "Sanon has outdone herself," Mashable India said of her career's highest success. In fact, you will also see Mimi's finest work on film as she works with her craft; "Mimi is Sanon's labour of love all the way." She received the IIFA Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in the film.

Abhishek Jain's comedy Hum Do Hamare Do opposite Rao, which was also produced by Vijan and premiered on Disney+ Hotstar, was Sanon's next release. Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV found her to be "the most notable appearance in [the] unfunny caper." Bachchhan Paandey was the first female to be released in 2022, marking her second collaboration with Kumar. The film was a box office bomb, grossing 69 crore (US$8.6 million) against a budget of 180 crore (US$23 million).

In the horror film Bhediya, Sanon will reunite with Shroff in Vikas Bahl's action film Ganapath and Dhawan. In Om Raut's film Adipurush (2023), she will co-star Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan.
