Kristin Landen Davis (also known as Kristin Lee Davis, 1965) is an American actress.
She is best known for her appearances on HBO's Sex and the City (1996–2004), as well as Brooke Armstrong on the soap opera Melrose Place (1995–1996).
She received awards at the Emmy and the Golden Globes in 2004 for her role as Charlotte, as well as a reprised her role in the films Sex and the City (2008) and Sex and the City 2 (2010).
She has done a great deal of philanthropic work and has worked with Oxfam and UNHCR throughout the years. Davis made her Broadway debut in The Best Man's 2012 revival as well as her West End debut as Beth Gallagher in the original 2014 stage revival of Fatal Attraction.
Early life and education
Davis was born in Boulder, Colorado. She is the only child of a single mother, and her parents divorced when she was a child. Dorothy, a university data analyst, was adopted by her stepfather, Keith Davis, then-University of Colorado Boulder, after she married her mother, Dorothy, a university data analyst, in 1968. She has three half sisters from her father's first marriage. She and her parents immigrated to Columbia, South Carolina, where her father served as provost and taught psychology at the University of South Carolina early in her youth.
When Davis was starring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the Workshop Theatre, she aspired to be an actress from the age of 9. Davis lived in South Carolina until she graduated from A.C. Flora High School in 1983. She then migrated to Rutgers University in New Jersey, where she spent the summer there. In 1987, Davis earned a BFA in acting from Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts.

She is a recovering alcoholic and claims she was introduced to alcohol early in her Southern upbringing: "Alcohol freed me." I was very shy and didn't know how to get out of my shell. I drank for the same reason as I loved acting. I wanted to feel emotions, express myself, and be free. And I'm not meant to be that way."
Career
Davis followed tables in New York after graduating in 1987 before opening a yoga studio with a friend. She appeared in a few episodes of the daytime drama (soap opera) General Hospital in 1991. She appeared on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and ER, as a guest on made-for-television films later. Brooke Armstrong Campbell, the Fox nighttime soap opera Melrose Place, made her big break in 1995 when she landed the role of villainess. She left the show after one year as producers decided to ban the actor. Davis appeared in two episodes of Seinfeld in the upcoming year.
Davis appeared in the HBO romantic comedy series Sex and the City in 1998, and remained a key cast member until the series's end in 2004.
