Renee Forbes Guajardo, born January 8, 1965), is an American actress who has appeared on television and in independent films.

Forbes first gained notoriety for her two appearances in Guiding Light, which received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination.

She is also a Saturn Award winner with three nominations. Forbes is best known for her recurring appearances on television and drama shows, including Ensign Ro Laren in Star Trek: The Next Generation and her regular role as an ambulance examiner, Julianna Cox on Homicide: Life on the Street in the 1990s, as well as her series regular appearance as Maryann Forrester on True Blood.

She has appeared in films including Escape From Los Angeles, Kalifornia, and Swimming with Sharks. She appeared in the AMC television series The Killing, which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

Forbes would appear in Treadstone, a prequel to the Bourne franchise, on June 18, 2019.

Early life

Forbes was born in Austin, Texas, of Mexican American descent.

Forbes aspired to be a ballet dancer. She began formal acting instruction at the Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She discovered herself auditioning for a film while on vacation in New York City at the age of 16, but she wasn't chosen, so she joined the William Morris Agency and began her professional acting career.

Personal life

Ross Kettle, a retired actor from Forbes, married Ross Kettle in 1990; the union ended in divorce.

Forbes has been a vegetarian since childhood and went vegan in 2011.

Career

On the daytime soap opera Guiding Light, Solita Carrera Lewis and Sonni Carrera Lewis appeared in 1985, at the age of 22, Forbes landed Solita Carrera Lewis and Sonni Carrera Lewis. She appeared on the show for two years and was given a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her appearance in 1990. She stayed in theater, which was an early love of her own, and began appearing on television in small guest roles to raise her profile. Ensign Ro Laren, a fiery, yet reserved Bajoran, appeared on several other TV shows (including Star Trek: The Next Generation and Father Dowling Mysteries), before landing her current role in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Forbes was invited by Star Trek's producers to reprise Ro in the spin-off series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but Forbes turned to a career in film instead. For her role as photographer Carrie Laughlin in the 1993 thriller Kalifornia, she received accolades as well as a Saturn Award nomination from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. This was followed by the lead female role in the 1994 black comedy Swimming with Sharks, as well as supporting roles in films like The Road Killers, Just Looking, and John Carpenter's 1996 science fiction/action sequel Escape from Los Angeles.

She continued on television during this period, with guest spots on Seinfeld, The Outer Limits, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, to which she returned to tie up the Ro Laren storyline in the series's penultimate episode.

Forbes became a member of NBC's popular police drama Homicide: Life on the Street in 1996, playing chief medical examiner Julianna Cox. She appeared on the program for two years before being voted out as part of a major cast overhaul (the show will be cancelled after one more season). However, she will reprise her role in Homicide: The Movie, which was released in 2000.

Forbes became a regular on Wonderland, an ABC series, this year, but it was taken off from the air after only two episodes. Forbes was last seen on the television show The District as a regular character.

She appeared in films including Perfume and 2002's American Girl, as well as the 2001 British television film Messiah (for which she studied British sign language for a week) and Messiah III: Vengeance is Mine in 2002 and 2003. Forbes played the recurring role of presidential aide Lynne Kresge on the second season of the action series 24 from 2002-2003.

She began on 24 with a guest spot on Alias, then moved on to appear in three episodes of the classic sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, as well as in the TV show Battlestar Galactica: Razor. Forbes returned to British television screens with guest appearances in both Holby City and as a Mossad agent in Waking the Dead. Forbes appeared in two HBO drama series in 2008; in Treatment, depicting the wife of the central character; and in True Blood, as a Maenad named Maryann Forrester.

Dr. Penelope Verity, a semi-regular actress who appeared in both series in their respective second seasons in 2009, as well as joining the cast of the Canadian psychological drama film Durham County for its second season.

In the US television series The Killing, a 2011 sequel to the Danish crime series Forbrydelsen, Mitch Larsen appeared in Forbes. In the TV show Powers, Forbes appeared as Retro Girl. Mockingjay also landed a prominent supporting role in The Hunger Games: Part 2: Mockingjay.

Valerie Edwards appeared in the TV series Berlin Station, which aired on Epix from 2016 to 2019. Her character as a Berlin Station Internal Branch Chief was a no-nonsense administrator.
