The World Cup winner regained the captain's armband for Saturday evening's meaningless game, as Miami already failed to qualify for the playoffs ahead of the last day of the regular season. Charlotte, on the other hand, had a lot on the line before going to The Herons and made sure to advance to the playoffs with a 1-0 victory at home. Following its victory at Bank of America Stadium, the Crown is now in the last playoff seed - ninth - of the Eastern Conference.

On Wednesday night, Braian Cufre came to the rescue with an 81st-minute goal, netting New York City FC a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC. NYCFC (5-7-10, 25 points) dominated the game and the prospects throughout the match, but Cufre's goal was to prevent a loss. The result left NYCFC undefeated in the last seven outings (1-0-6).

Lucas Zelarayan of the Columbus Crew made Major League Soccer history by breaking the record for the longest free kick scored on Wednesday night. Zelarayan lined up for a quick free kick against Charlotte FC in the 36th minute, but then glanced up and saw goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina about 15 yards off his line. A spectacular strike of the ball sent it soar through the air and across Kahlina's head into the back of the net. According to MLS Communications, Zelarayan scored the longest free kick goal in the league since the stat began being kept in 2010
