Darijo Srna Life

Darijo Srna (Croatian pronunciation: [drijo sna]; born 1 May 1982) is a Croatian former professional footballer and current head of football for Ukrainian Premier League club Shakhtar Donetsk. He was a right back during most of his career.

He began his career at Hajduk Split before heading to Shakhtar in 2003. During his stay in Shakhtar, he has won numerous trophies, including a UEFA Cup title, five Ukrainian Cup titles, and five Ukrainian Super Cup titles. He left Shakhtar in 2018 and joined Cagliari for one year, then moved to Shakhtar to work as an assistant manager.

Srna made his international debut for Croatia in November 2002, becoming the country's second most captained player in the Croatian national team with 134 caps, as well as in UEFA EURO 2006, 2012, and 2016. In 2009, then-capt. Slaven Bili made him the captain of the national team, a position he would hold until his retirement from international football in 2016; the captaincy then moved to Luka Modria.

He is the most capped player in Shakhtar history, with 536 appearances. He was popularly referred to as the "Icon of Shakhtar" in the media. Despite having offers from Chelsea and Bayern Munich, Srna turned down due to his commitment to the club, he declined. Comparisons to Cafu have been drawn on Srna's consistent quality and playing style.

Personal life

Srna was born in Metkovi to Bosniak father Uzeir and Croat mother Milka. Despite widespread racism during the Yugoslav Wars and widespread mistrust among football coaches, his father, a World War II orphanage and a former footballer for FK Sarajevo, endorsed his fledgling football career. He gave his parents a new Mercedes before leaving Croatia to join Shakhtar Donetsk. He has a deer tattoo on his leg, as "srna" in Croatian means "deer." Srna has also worked with Bosnian club Borac amac, where his father served as a goalkeeper and was also a mentor.

Renato, a Neato coach who has been a coach at Neapolita for the first time, is Srna's half-brother. Igor's older brother also has Down syndrome. Srna dedicates all of his goals to him, as well as a shirt displaying "Igor, smo tebe" ("We are all here for you") after scoring a goal against North Macedonia in international play. He also has a tattoo that reads "Igor" throughout his body.

When Srna was in Shakhtar, he often bought match tickets for orphans and often paid for their travel to the stadium at his own expense. During the continuing war in the Donbass area, he bought 20 tonnes of tangerines from farms near Metkovi and had them donated to over 23,000 primary school children in the Donbass region in late 2014. Srna married Mirela Fori, whom he met through a mutual friend and footballer Bo'ko Balaban. Kasja and their son Karlo were born in July 2010 and June 2015.

International career

He scored both goals in Croatia's two 1–0 victories over Sweden, as well as a long-range free kick in the away match in Gothenburg during 2006 World Cup qualifying, including a long-range free kick. In Croatia's 2–2 home draw against Bulgaria, he also scored one goal, as well as one goal in their 3–1 away victory over Iceland.

Srna played in all three games of Croatia's 2006 World Cup campaign. He was praised and remembered for his spectacular 30-yard free kick that put Croatia up against Australia in the infamous "Graham Poll three-yellow card" blunder match that concluded 2–2. However, in a 0–0 draw, he missed a penalty and Croatia finished third in the group stage with only 2 points.

Srna was temporarily suspended from the Croatian squad for a Euro 2008 qualifying match against Russia due to a late night partying spree in a local disco, along with colleagues Boko Balaban and Ivica Oli.

When Srna came on as a hero of the game against Macedonia in a Euro 2008 qualifier, he was shot into the right corner of the goal. He gave a cross to teammate Eduardo in the 88th minute and allowed him to score and win Croatia late in the game. In Croatia's hard-fought away victory over Israel, who eventually lost 4–3 in Croatia's favour, he was also scoring Croatia's equalizer. Srna continued to miss a penalty against Estonia, but his overall contribution to the teamwork effort compensated for this mistake, which Croatia soon capitalized on to win 2–0.

Srna was unexpectedly named in their 23-man squad for the current tournament after helping his country prepare for Euro 2008 with a solid qualifying campaign. Srna scored the first goal in Croatia's 2–1 victory over Germany in their second game of Group B on Sunday, on June 12th. He was Croatia's only player to score in their tumultuous penalty shootout in the quarter-finals against Turkey. Srna was seen struggling to avoid an emotional breakdown as a result of Croatia's solid efforts but eventual loss.

Srna took over as Niko Kovas national team captain after Euro 2008 in Prague.

Srna was the captain of three games of the 2012 tournament, where Croatia finished third behind Spain and Italy, but was unable to progress to the next stage. The tournament's finalists, Italy and Spain, have advanced to the finals.

Croatia qualified for the 2014 World Cup, where Srna served as team captain for his second official international tournament after Euro 2012. Croatia came in third third place in the group behind Brazil and Mexico, and as a result, the country did not qualify for the next stage.

However, he returned to Croatia shortly after the match, despite the fact that his father died during the match. He returned to France to finish the tournament after his father's dying wish. Croatia advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament, but Portugal lost 1–0 to Portugal thanks to an extra-time Ricardo Quaresma goal.

Srna has scored 134 caps and 22 goals for Croatia, making him the country's most capped player at the time of his retirement. He held this record for over eight years until it was overtaken by Luka Modri in 2021.

The Gunners' last plan was around £45 million plus add-ons up to £62 million for the 22-year-old. However, the restructured plan is expected to have around £62 million in compensation. Shakhtar's main feature is that they wanted more up front than the last £45 million bid, and though they are expected to pay less.

In a cryptic Instagram message, Arsenal Mykhailo Mudryk sheds another hint that he is joining the club

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 12, 2023
Despite the Ukrainian outfit's warning that they have a'minimal' chance of signing him in the January transfer window, the Shakhtar Donetsk winger (right) is keen to join the Premier League team. However, Mudryk's £88 million rating took the form of a cryptic picture (left) on his Instagram story depicting him sporting an Arsenal shirt (inset). Mudryk, 22, posted a snapshot of his cat with the tag "My biggest cheerleader," as well as cry-laughing and love-heart emojis. However, Mudryk himself appeared in the background of the photo, in a YouTube video on the TV screen wearing a Gunners shirt. The club made the announcement on the same day that it made a fresh £62 million bid, plus bonuses.

In the interest of Arsenal, Mykhailo Mudryk is seen in a chat with Shakhtar's chief Darijo Srna

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 11, 2023
Arsenal's high-profile January transfer target was seen deep in discussion with Shakhtar Donetsk chief Darijo Srna as negotiations of a Gunners transfer ramp up. Mikel Arteta's top transfer target has been pushed for several weeks due to his new club's asking a higher price than the Gunners were able to pay. Despite Chelsea's repeated statements that he would like to the Gunners, the 22-year-old has also piqued interest as negotiations drag on.
