Khaled Life

Khaled Hadj Ibrahim (born 28 February 1960), better known by his mononym Khaled, was born in Oran, Algeria.

Cheb Khaled (Arabic for "Young" Khaled, as opposed to Sheikh elders' traditionalist Sheikh elders) began recording in his early teens and has since become Algeria's most well-known Algerian singer.

His fame has earned him the unofficial title "King of Ra."

"Didi," "Acha" and "C'est la vie," as well as "Alech Taadi," which were prominently featured in the film The Fifth Element, were among his most popular songs.

Early life

Khaled Hadj Ibrahim was born in Oran's Eckmühl neighborhood, Algeria, on February 29th.

Personal life

Khaled married Samira Diabi when she was 27 years old on January 12, 1995. He has four daughters and one son with Diabi.

His wife first filed a complaint against him for domestic assault in 1997 before retracting the allegation.

Khaled: Behind the Smile, a memoir of his childhood, was published in 1998.

Khaled has an illegitimate son with whom he has no way to contact. He denied being the father of the child before a court in 2001, although he continued to say he had been "deceived." Khaled was sentenced to a two-month suspended prison term for "family deertion" in Nanterre's criminal court on May 7, 2001. These allegations allegedly motivated his decision to Luxembourg in 2008, where he has been residing ever since.

In August 2013, he was granted Moroccan citizenship, which he didn't apply for but accepted because he felt he couldn't refuse.

Khaled Career

Musical career

His meteoric rise to national prominence was mainly due to Lieutenant-Colonel Hosni Snoussi, the head of the state-sponsored arts and culture Office Riadh el Feth, who took Khaled under his wing and welcomed him and other rai actors to perform at the state-sponsored Festival de la Jeunesse pour la Fête Nationale in Algiers in 1985. In the first official festival of rai, which was held in Oran, he was crowned king of rai in the same year.

Hosni Snoussi and Martin Meissonnier, both of whom attended the festival, convinced France's Minister of Culture Jack Lang that the export of rai from Algeria to France was in the French government's interest, and they coproduced the first rai festival in France at Bobigny in 1986. Cheb Khaled, who had been avoiding his compulsory military service, was only able to perform at Bobigny after Colonel Snoussi intervened with Algerian military authorities to obtain a passport. Snoussi arranged for Cheb Khaled to record in France just after, with support from the Office Riadh el Feth. Kutché, a 1988 release by Khaled and Algerian jazz musician Safy Boutella, has earned a following in France, where he soon settled.

Khaled (who'd since dropped the Cheb) had been forced to leave Paris after widespread unrest in Algeria had killed people and harmed many others, as had several Rae performers. He came with a reputation, but Kutche's true debut, Kutche, did him no favors with its jazz-rock arrangements, but Kutche did not do him no favors. Khaled's performance fared much better than 1992's Khaled, with some tracks by Michael Brook and others by Don Was. It was his first big hit, "Didi," that helped him to establish his fame as Ra's first superstar. Khaled's winning voice and winning smile for a major commercial breakthrough in France this year was solidly cemented the following year with the Was-produced N'ssi, which mixed funk, rock, and an Egyptian orchestra behind him. He hit Khaled again in 1996 with Sahra's first single, "A" written for his daughter, giving him his first French number one hit. A combination of producers made varied sounds, with French hip-hoppers Akhenton & Imhotep being the most difficult on the track "Oran Marseille" with its rapid-fire rap. "Mektoubi" had even some reggae on it, which mingled seamlessly with the North African sound. Despite being well-received academically, it did not sell well in the United States, but not in France, where the album became Khaled's biggest success. King of Ras first appearance in 1999, when he headlined the 1-2-3 Soleils concert in Paris (which resulted in the album of the same name), over Rachid Taha and Faudel, it was certainly the moment that justified his title. It was France's biggest Algerian show ever staged, leaving no doubt that Khaled was still Ras hottest attraction. Kenza and a change of producer were brought to the proceedings in 2000, but former prog rocker Steve Hillage contributed to the event's more natural feel. A spectacular in Europe, but it did not do well in the United States, as the company did not do well.

Khaled's hit song, "Didi," became extremely popular in Arabic-speaking countries and also in several other continents, including Europe, where it debuted in top charts in France, Belgium, and Spain, as well as Asia, including India and Pakistan. The song was also used in Bollywood films Shreeman Aashiq, Airlift, and Highway. Don Was, a producer and musician from Khaled and the producer Don Was on the Tonight Show on February 4, 1993.

Khaled returned to the United States in December 2004 for a special guest appearance at the GRAMMY JAM 2004 in Los Angeles, Calif. He appeared on DIDI as a host of international musicians honoring Earth Wind and Fire's legendary musicians, as well as Brazilian Rhymes, demonstrating how music has influenced the world, utilizing his North African style.

Khaled's album C'est la vie, which has sold more than one million copies in Europe, 1.8 million copies in the Middle East and North Africa, and over 4 million copies worldwide, with over 4 million copies in 2012. According to SNEP's official French Albums Chart, the album reached the top of the SNEP list.

Khaled was found guilty on 3 April 2015 of plagiarism of Didi, from Angui ou Selmi, a musical composition arranged by Cheb Rabah (born Rabah Zerradine) on 1988. Khaled was cleared of charges against him on May 13, 2016, but the court of Cassation dismissed them on May 13, 2016, just weeks after a 1982 audio cassette with the song was posted. Khaled was filmed and sent to a Oran-based manufacturer six years before Cheb Rabah's debut. During this case, Rabah had to compensate Khaled for the fees.
