As the World Cup edges closer, could we see players start to protect themselves?

This is what happens when you plonk a World Cup in the middle of a season, at a time in the calendar when injuries are typically high due to a packed schedule, and you'll continue to play even more games to make up for lost time. The less time there is to recover as the days count down. Just eight days separate the last Premier League match before the World Cup and the first game in Qatar. And if that is even the slightest knock, it might be devastating for a player on the verge of history.
