Kevin Dominique Gameiro (born 9 May 1987) is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish club Valencia.He is a strong striker who is known for his clinical finishing, which compensates for his relatively light frame.Gameiro began his football career playing for clubs along the Oise such as Marly-la-Ville and US Chantilly.

In 2004, he moved to the Alsace region to join professional club RC Strasbourg.

He made his professional debut in the 2004–05 season and appeared in the UEFA Cup with Strasbourg.

After three seasons with the club, in August 2008, Gameiro signed a four-year deal with FC Lorient.

With Lorient, he finished his first two seasons with the club as top scorer.

In the 2009–10 season, Gameiro contributed to the team that achieved a 7th-place finish; the club's highest finish in Ligue 1 ever. Gameiro is a former France youth international having earned caps at under-18, under-20, and under-21 level.

At under-20 level, he played on the team that won the 2007 edition of the Toulon Tournament.

Kevin Gameiro Career

Early career

Gameiro was born in Senlis, a town in Oise, 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Paris, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Paris. His family came from Portugal. He began playing for ES Marly-la-Ville, not far from his hometown at the age of six. He opted to remain in Picardie and joined US Chantilly prior to turning 13. Gameiro was discovered by former Strasbourg player and scout Jacky Dupréux, who advised him to join his former team while excelling at US Chantilly. Gameiro completed his transfer to the Alsatian club in 2004 as a youth player.

Club career

Gameiro was drafted into the club's reserve team in the Championnat de France Amateur, the fourth level of French football, upon his arrival. He spent the entire 2004–05 season with the team. Gameiro has played in 20 games and scored four goals. Gameiro made his professional debut on September 10, 2005, in a match against Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement in the 59th minute of a 1–0 loss in Ligue 1, with Duprépéroux now on board. Gameiro made his European debut in a UEFA Cup match against Serbian team Red Star Belgrade on December 14th. Gameiro scored his first professional goal for the club in the 79th minute, with Strasbourg trailing 2–0 late in the game. He scored the equalizing goal in the final minutes of play, bringing the match to a close match at 22-2. Strasbourg's stalemate ensured the success of the team and the team later progressed to the Round of 16 where they were eliminated 4–2 on aggregate to Swiss club FC Basel. In the team's 4–0 victory over Nancy in the Coupe de France, Gameiro converted his third goal of the season. Gameiro scored his first league goal on February 4, 2006, losing 2–1 to Lens in league play. Following a tackle by Troye Kouassi, his season was cut short three weeks later. Gameiro missed the Coupe Gambardella competition, which the Strasbourg under-19 team won by beating Lyon 3–1 in the final at the Stade de France, due to the injury. Overall, Gameiro's season was a success, but the team was forced to relegate to Ligue 2 for the 2006-07 season due to the club's greater focus on Europe.

Gameiro made his first appearance with Strasbourg in Ligue 2 late in the season, losing 2–0 to Auxerre in the Coupe de la Ligue on September 19, 2006. In a 2–0 victory over Istres two months later, he scored his first goal. Gameiro alternated between the bench and the starting eleven during the remainder of the season. Despite Strasbourg's 3rd-place finish, he only scored two goals against Gueugnon and Istres for the remainder of the season. Gameiro's first full season as a professional saw him score six goals in 36 appearances. During the early portion of the season against Auxerre and Toulouse, he scored in back-to-back games but only two goals, but not in the back-to-back games. In the last two matches of the season against Caen and Marseille, he scored his final two goals for the club. Strasbourg lost both games, causing Strasbourg to be relegated to Ligue 2.

Despite strong enthusiasm from Marseille, Gameiro has agreed to a four-year contract with Brittany-based outfit Lorient on June 17. Strasbourg paid Strasbourg a €3 million transfer fee for his services. Gameiro was given the number 9 shirt and was announced as the team's head striker. In a 1–0 win over Le Mans on September 9, he made his club debut on August 9, 2008, playing the entire match. In a 3–1 loss to Valenciennes, he scored his first goal for the club two weeks later. He was involved in Lorient's 3–0 victory over Brittany rival Nantes on October 25th. Gameiro scored goals in back-to-back matches on two occasions this month. In the four matches, Lorient went undefeated. Lorient qualified for the Round of 16 in the Coupe de France. In the Round of 64 and the Round of 32, respectively, Gameiro scored goals against Alençon and Tours. Gameiro's record of scoring goals against Sochaux, Grenoble, Marseille, and Nancy remained strong during the spring portion of the season's scoring campaign. Gameiro scored a double against the latter team. He had 39 appearances and 13 goals on the season. Lorient finished 10th in the first division, the club's highest finish ever.

Gameiro's rise to French football continued in the 2009–2010 Ligue 1 season. He scored on his debut on August 8, 2009, beating Lille 2–1 and scoring another goal against Montpellier in a 2–2 draw the following week. In back-to-back matches against Nancy and Grenoble, Lorient won both matches a month later. He scored in Lorient's 4–1 victory over Nice on Monday, and scored a double in the club's 5–0 victory over Boulogne on Monday. Gameiro scored the equalizing goal in Lorient's 2–2 deadlock on October 28th, with Grenoble converting the goal in injury time. The draw brought Lorient to fifth position in the standings, the club's highest position in the season ever. Gameiro's only goal in Lorient's upset victory over Lyon in the Coupe de la Ligue on January 27, 2010. He scored in Lorient's 3–0 humiliation of Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes two weeks later. In a 1–1 draw with Toulouse, Gameiro scored the following week. Analysts were led to believe that Gameiro should be considered for the French national team ahead of the friendly against Spain on March 3rd, but coach Raymond Domenech did not recommend him for the squad because of his consistent form. Gameiro ended the 2009–10 season by scoring seven goals in the final nine league games. In victories over Bordeaux, Grenoble, and Lille, he scored a brace against Saint-Étienne and converted opening goals. Lorient won five and ultimately finished in 7th place in six matches; the club's highest finish in Ligue 1 ever.

Gameiro stayed consistent in the 2010–11 season. He returned to the team in mid-August after missing the first league match of the season. In a 2–0 victory over Lyon on August 28, he scored the game-winning goal. He was involved in all three goals in the team's 6–3 loss to Lille in December. Gameiro scored the team's opening goal in the 7th minute, scored his second shortly before halftime, and assisted Lynel Kitambala's in the second half. Gameiro was the object of intense transfer rumors in January 2011. According to reports, the striker had signed a long-term deal with Valencia, Spain. Despite the announced deal, Lorient president Loc Féry declared that although personal terms had been reached, Valencia had never sent in a transfer fee request for the player. Lorient had accepted a bid from fellow Ligue 1 club Bordeaux later this month, according to French media. Officials in Bordeaux, on the other hand, revealed that Gameiro's first choice was to play for Valencia. Gameiro stayed with Lorient following the closure of the transfer window, but Fery stated "our highest priority has always been to keep Kevin with us." Despite rumors of a potential transfer, Gameiro remained tenacious on the field of play. He started scoring seven goals in the team's four ensuing league matches, beginning in late January. Gameiro scored both goals in a 2–0 victory over Brest on January 29. In a home victory over Caen and a home loss to Monaco in the next two weeks, he scored goals. Gameiro's hat-trick victory over Bordeaux in a 5–1 win on February 19, 2011.

According to media reports, Paris Saint-Germain and Lorient had signed a deal for the transfer of Gameiro. The striker had previously favored a move to either Paris Saint-Germain or Valencia. The transfer was confirmed by Paris Saint-Germain two days after a successful medical. Gameiro decided to a four-year contract, and the transfer fee was €11 million, with future bonuses to be added later. Gameiro made his competitive debut for Paris Saint-Germain on August 6, 2011, the team's opening 1–0 league loss to Lorient. In the club's 1–1 draw with Rennes, he scored his first goal for the club this week. Gameiro scored the first goal for the team in a 4–0 away victory on August 18, 2011 in Paris Saint-Germain's first leg UEFA Europa League playoff round tie against Luxembourger club Differdange. He scored a goal in a 2–1 victory over Valenciennes, assisting Paris Saint-Germain in their first league victory of the season. In his team's 3–1 victory over AC Ajaccio on October 16, Gameiro had a hat trick. Gameiro scored once more in 2011 against Sochaux before his club thundered into the new year, remaining undefeated in 2012 as far as 31 March. In Coupe de France play against Evian TG and Dijon FCO, Gameiro scored on 20 January against Sablé-sur-Sarthe FC on January 20th. Gameiro failed to score again in the 11/12 season after a string of victories for his team and a slew of goals for himself.

Gameiro's first goal in the 12/13 campaign came against FC Sochaux on September 29, 2012, and a second 22 minutes later. Gameiro scored thrice more in 2012, including goals against Stade de Reims, Evian TG, and Stade Brestois. In Coupe de France play, Gameiro scored his first goal in 2013 against Toulouse FC. PSG defeated Valencia CF 1-0 in Champions League play, with Gameiro supplying Ezequiel Lavezzi for a 66th-minute goal, effectively ending PSG's aggregate victory and giving PSG the aggregate victory. Gameiro's next game was March 29 against Montpellier; 2013's last Gameiro goals were both scored against Gameiro's former team Lorient, which was also scored against Montpellier on May 26. Given that Gameiro was recalled in the offseason, this game marked both his last scoring appearance and his last match for PSG.

Gameiro agreed to a five-year contract with Sevilla for a €10 million fee on July 25, 2013, promising to a five-year commitment for the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán club. Gameiro limped off the field with a groin injury in his first training session with the club on July 30, causing the French striker to be ruled out of the club's third-round Europa League match against Mladost Podgorica.

In the Spanish team's first-leg Europa League play-off tie against lsk Wrocaw, a 4–1 home victory on August 22, Gameiro scored his first goal for the Spanish side. Gameiro scored a header against Málaga CF on September 1st, but his team lost by a 2–2 draw as the game ended in a 2–2 draw. Gameiro scored on five occasions, including a 1 December match against Granada CF in which he also received a yellow card. As Sevilla defeated Real Valladolid 4–1, Gameiro netted a double on March 16, 2014.

On 6 April, Gameiro scored a goal in either half against Espanyol, boosting his team's 4–1 league win. Gameiro came off the bench and scored Sevilla's fourth and final goal in a Europa League quarter-final second-leg match on Monday, securing a 4–2 aggregate victory over Porto and a spot in the 2013-14 Europa League semi-finals. Gameiro scored twice more in the 2013-14 La Liga Sevilla derby against Real Betis, just three days later, giving Sevilla a 2–0 away victory. Gameiro came off the bench in extra time and scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 2013-14 Europa League final against Portuguese side Benfica on May 14th, securing a 4–2 shoot-out victory for Sevilla.

Gameiro scored a hat-trick in a 2015--16 La Liga home match against Getafe CF, in which Sevilla defeated 5–0, his first La Liga hat-trick.

Gameiro scored Sevilla's equalizing goal a meter from the goal line on 18 May 2016, just 17 seconds into the 2016 UEFA Europa League Final against Liverpool, after receiving a low cross from Mariano Ferreira Filho who had burst into the penalty box from the right. That was his eighth UEFA Europa League goal for 2015-16. Sevilla defeated the UEFA Cup/Europa League 3-1, becoming the first team to win the UEFA Cup/Europa League for the first time in a row. It was their fifth UEFA Cup/Europa League title overall.

Atlético Madrid and Sevilla have signed an agreement for the transfer of Gameiro on a four-year contract, with a reported €32 million increase to €40 million with add-ons, which has increased to €40 million.

International career

At the under-18, under-20, and under-21 levels, Gameiro represented France internationally. In a friendly match against Russia on October 29, he made his under-18 debut on October 29, 2004. Gameiro made his only appearance with the under-18 team in the return match against Russia two days later. He was known in the area for his 2007 Toulon Tournament appearance with the under-20 team. In the group stage portion of the game against Ivory Coast, Gameiro scored five goals in four games, with just one goal scoring only one goal. Gameiro's only goal in the team's win over Portugal was in the semi-finals. Gameiro scored a hat trick in the team's 3–1 victory over China in the final. Gameiro was voted Player of the Tournament for his efforts. In a friendly against the Czech Republic on March 26, 2008, he made his under-21 debut on March 26, 2008. Gameiro, who was on his debut, scored his third goal in the team's 4–1 victory. Gameiro was called up for the under-21 team's 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship qualification play-offs against Germany, but he did not appear in either leg. On aggregate, France lost the tie 2–1 on aggregate. Gameiro's under-21 career was ended due to the poor result.

Gameiro was called up to the French senior team for the first time by new boss Laurent Blanc for the team's UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier matches against Belarus, Bosnia, and Herzegovina in August 2010. In the match against Belarus, he made his senior team debut against Belarus as a replacement in the second half. Gameiro earned his second cap in the team's 1–0 victory over Brazil on February 9, 2011. In his first international goal netting the team's opener in a 4–1 win, he scored his first international goal netting the team's opener on June 6th. He had a brace against Bulgaria in the 2018 World Cup qualification match against Bulgaria, which France won 4–1.

Gameiro was eligible to represent Portugal at the international level due to his paternal grandfather's Portuguese roots. Gameiro, according to then-manager Carlos Queiroz, who said he was "an interesting player" and that he "would like to talk to him" about representing Portugal.
