Early life and training
Kerry Jane Ellis was born in Haughley, Suffolk, on the sixth of Sandra Ann Reed and Terry John Ellis. She attended dance lessons at the Ann Holland School of Theatre Dance and appeared in local plays and pantomimes as well as horse riding, as well as swimming and horse riding. She appeared on stage in The Wizard of Oz at the Wolsey Theatre in nearby Ipswich, where she appeared as a Munchkin at the age of 9. Following a successful audition, she spent the summer of 1990 with the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT).
"I knew I wanted to be on the stage" when her parents brought her to Les Misérables for her 13th birthday. Ellis admits she didn't discover her voice until she was in college and had started working, but Liza Minnelli, Elaine Paige, and Barbra Strobin are among her early influences; her older brother Andrew, who is now a keen fisherman, was a tumultuous child. Ruthie Henshall has recalled how she was inspired by her fellow musical theatre actress Ruthie Henshall's success: "I think I connected with her because it was a real story that I enjoyed and was doable." She was just a few years ahead of me, and I could relate to her.
She completed her internship with Starmakers, a group of holiday entertainers, at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea, when attending Stowmarket High School. She also performed well in the summers of 1995 and 1997 for the company's benefit by performing many of their cabaret shows. Ellis left school at 16 and enrolled in Laine Theatre Arts, an independent performing arts college, where she spent three years to earn a national diploma in musical theatre. "I learned a lot about myself, the industry, and ended up feeling part of something special" she recalls. Ellis was also in the same year as fellow musical theatre actress Louise Dearman. Ellis had appeared in many professional pantomimes for E&B productions including Dick Whittington (1995) and Aladdin (1996), as well as playing the title role in Cinderella (1997) at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend-on-Sea.
Career
Ellis began understudied in Marti Webb's appearance in 1998, but the ship's entertainment staff took a break in 1999 to board cruise ship MS Voyager of the Seas, requiring him on several occasions in Webb's absence. She left the ship in Los Angeles, spent three months in the United States before her visa ran out, and then returned to understudy in the UK concert tour after nine months of traveling through the Caribbean. She had made her first television appearance on Children in Need for their special Pudsey the Musical on November 29, 1999, and was included in a Capital FM jingle. She appeared in a Gary Griffin-directed workshop performance titled Helen of Troy and played the role of Mary in Merrily We Roll Along at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
After being scouted by agent Jonathan Greatorex in the role of Eliza Doolittle, she had settled in her first home, a two-bedroom maisonette, and joined the original cast of Cameron Mackintosh's London revival of My Fair Lady as the second of two understudies to Martine McCutcheon. The musical appeared at the Royal National Theatre from 6 March 2001 to June 20, 2001, but it later moved to Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, beginning 21 July 2001. Ellis played Eliza Doolittle opposite Jonathan Pryce and Dennis Waterman on the West End, with only three hours preparation due to her illnesses.
"Kerry [had] been practicing during the season, but she didn't find out until late afternoon that she was going to continue." "She was terrified and excited but she loved it," said agent Greatorex, one of the first undercovery Jay. "She was fantastic." "I was anxious on stage, but once I was on stage the nerves dissipated and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey," Ellis said. She appeared on five occasions and left the company in July 2002. "I have a fond memory of this, my first West End show, and the learning curve from the cast and designers was fantastic," she recalled. "It was a big step up for me," she said. It was not only in the form of display that it was on display, but also in getting my name out."
Queen guitarist Brian May and music director Mike Dixon attended the performance during her time in My Fair Lady. Ellis performed in the ensemble for the first time, and they returned for the second time at a performance where they were undercovering Eliza Doolittle's role and eagerly encouraged her to audition for their debut of their jukebox musical We Will Rock You. Ellis confessed that she had no idea it was May who was watching her at the time; she found out later today. She landed Meat and was expected to perform "Nobody But You" after seven auditions and had to sing "Only the Good Die Young."
She debuted on May 14th and appeared in television performances with the cast on Parkinson and at Party at the Palace. Ellis, who died as Meat on April 17, 2004, appeared on the original London cast recording of We Will Rock You. She said that working with May, Elton, and Roger Taylor was "a major step forward" in her career, describing her journey as "breath-taking."
May partnered with Ellis during her time in We Will Rock You to lay the foundations of her musical career, and she was particularly interested in working with her musically. "I was entranced and felt the certainty that I'd make an album for her from the day she first heard her singing." "I never left me alone," he said. They released an orchestral version of "No One But You" in 2002 (Only the Good Die Young). It was announced digitally three years ago. Ellis, who was still in the production, appeared in one-off intimate gigs at London venues.

In addition to being Ellen in a UK tour of Miss Saigon, Eva Cassidy appeared in a 2004 workshop production of Way Beyond Blue, a Trevor Nunn-directed and Imogen Stubbs-written piece. Miss Saigon was in rehearsals at Sadler's Wells Theatre in Islington until performances began on June 14th, 2004 at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. "While not on stage much, the brief moments with [Ellis'] Ellen are both emotional and sympathetic as well as vocally lovely," a BBC analyst said.
Ellis played Fantine in Les Misérables' West End version. Ellis began rehearsals while on tour with Miss Saigon and rehearsed for four weeks with the company before beginning the role of Fantine on June 27, 2005, alongside John Owen-Jones, Shonagh Daly, Shaun Escoffery, and Hayden Tee. Ellis was a fan for nearly a year and came to an end with the company on June 24. In addition to admitting to his delight at Ellis' development as a "good actor" and naming her a "true actress," theatre director Cameron Mackintosh confessed that Ellis made a "outstanding" Fantine.

The EP features three tracks: Brian May and Steve Sidwell's "Defying Gravity" and "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked and Queen's "Nobody Is a Child" that she and May produced six years ago, as well as "I'm Not That Girl" and "I'm Not That Girl" from "Not That Girl" and "I'm Not That Girl" (Only the Good Die Young) which she and May recorded six years ago Ellis left the Broadway company on September 9, 2008, and Marcie Doddd was hired. Ellis and Dianne Pilkington (who appeared alongside Glinda) were also the show's longest serving leads. In a Whatsonstage.com poll asking the public to vote for their favorite actress who has appeared in London in 2013, she was named as the most popular West End Elphaba.
