Sarah Stiles (born June 20, 1979) is an American singer and actress best known for her appearances in Off-Broadway and Broadway theater. She appeared in Avenue Q as Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut, as well as in the musical Vanities in which she played Joanne.

In 2015, she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Tootsie.

Spinel was also a character in Steven Universe: The Movie.

Early life

Stiles was born in Massachusetts on June 20, 1979 and was later raised in Strafford, New Hampshire, attending Strafford Elementary School. Stiles started her high school career at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in New Hampshire in middle school.

Personal life

On October 18, 2020, Stiles married Jeff Harding, her husband. Patti, their dog, lives in New York City with their dog.

Career

Stiles began performing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, at the age of 12. In Annie at the Seacoast Repertory Theater, her first appearance was as the titular character. Stiles appeared in two major roles as a child in New Hampshire: Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and Cinderella in Cinderella. Stiles loved the performing arts so much that she spent her summers at the Prescott Park Arts Festival in Portsmouth.

She studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City before being involved with Broadway productions. Stiles is best known for her two appearances in Avenue Q, an off-Broadway production of a college student who dreams of moving to New York City with high hopes but lives on Avenue Q and has little money. Stiles plays Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut, two puppets that she manages throughout the series.

Stiles had spent the majority of her time in Avenue Q, but she was later offered the role of Joanne in Vanities, a venture that Stiles had been involved with for two years. Vanities were first seen at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California, but later moved to New York's Second Stage. Stiles were eventually involved in recording an album of the songs due to their participation in Vanities.

She appeared in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical Into the Woods at the Delacorte Theater in New York as part of Shakespeare in the Park. Denis O'Hare and Amy Adams, two Academy Award winners, appeared opposite Academy Award winners Amy Adams and Tony Award winners.

Stiles first appeared in the Epix television series Get Shorty in 2017. Stiles appeared in the film Unsane, a 2018 film. Stiles also appeared on the Showtime series Billions (season 3 to present) in 2018.

She appeared in the stage musical version of the film Tootsie from September 11, 2018, which ran at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago from September 11 to Oct. 14, 2018. In April 2019, the musical premiered on Broadway. Gladys Parrish, a singer/actress, is portrayed in the Broadway musical Tootsie as Stiles in the third season of Epix television series Get Shorty. Stiles was able to recreate one of her numbers from the Broadway show on television.
