Keith David Williams (born June 4, 1956) is an American actor, voice actor, and singer.

He is best known for his roles as Spawn and also Dr. Nicola.

In The Thing, Dillamond, King of Platoon and Children.

He has appeared in mainstream films, including Crash, There's Something About Mary, Barbershop, and Men at Work. In Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream, David has appeared in several cult classics, including Armitage in They Live, Abu "Imam" al-Walid, and Pitch Black and its sequel The Chronicles of Riddick, General Kimsey in Armageddon and Big Tim.

In the sixth season of the NBC series Community, he appeared as Elroy Patashnik.

He debuted in 2016 as Bishop James Greenleaf in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama Greenleaf. He has performed as the narrator of Ken Burns' films, including The War, in Emmy-winning voice-over.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Dr. Gregor Foley describes the Arbiter in the Halo series, Goliath on Gargoyles, Al Simmons/ Spawn on Todd McFarlane's Spawn, David Anderson of Gargoyles, Julianus Little and himself in the Saints Row comic series, and Sergeant Foley on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Early life and education

David was born in Harlem, New York City, and raised in Corona, Queens, on June 4, 1956. Dolores (née Dickenson) was his mother, and Lester Williams, his father, was a director of payroll operations.

After appearing in The Wizard of Oz in a school production, he planned to enroll at the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan. He studied Drama at the Juilliard School (1975-1979, Group 8) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1979.

Personal life

He has married twice. He has one son from his first marriage and two daughters from his second marriage.

When asked in a video interview about his narration work with The Bible, he answered, "I'm not a religious man." I'm a man of spirit. Religion can get partisan. I believe in God and Spirit. I believe in the faith. I've been baptized. "I have been to Catholic, Baptist, Episcopal, and the Church of God in Christ."

During a live Twitter Q&A in 2017, David listed Dr. Facilier, Spawn, and Goliath as his three favorite voice roles.

David Painett and The Acting Company were touring the country in 1980–81 as part of A Midsummer Night's Aspiration and Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot. He went on to star in Childs, opposite Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's The Thing, less than two years ago, beginning his long on-screen career. Keith Carpenter was portrayed by Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in the 1980s as the Southwood Carpenter in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe segments. In an episode where Rogers and a small child learned to play the arcade game Donkey Kong, Keith, the game coin collector, also played Keith, the game coin collector.

He went on to appear in films including Oliver Stone's Platoon, They Live, Men at Work, Marked for Death, and Stars and Bars. David has also worked as a voice actor, appearing in Adventure Time, Goliath from Gargoyles, and Archer's Lemuel Kane. David played the narrator and Okkoto in Princess Mononoke's English dub. In the English dub of 3x3 Eyes, he played Mama. In the role-playing video game Fallout, he played Decker and was the voice for the character Vhailor, as well as Planescape: Torment. He was the Arbiter for the video game Halo 2 in 2004, and later in the Xbox 360 sequel to Halo 3. David performed in Saints Row and its sequel Saints Row II, as well as voicing himself in Saints Row IV. He has worked with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns numerous times, narrating Burns' Jazz, Mark Twain, The War, Unforgivable Blackness, Jack Johnson's Rise and Fall. David was honoured with the Emmy Award for his contribution to The War and Unforgivable Blackness. In the BBC documentary, World War II: Behind Closed Doors, he performs the narration duties.

The 2004 PBS documentary Ancient Refuge in the Holy Land and 2005 History Channel documentary Crusades on the medieval Crusades were both narrated by him, as well as the 2003 National Geographic documentary Inside Mecca. He later parodied his documentary work by narrating the 2012 episode of "Pillows and Blankets," a parody of a pillow fight between rival blanket forts.

David has worked on several other documentaries, including several for National Geographic and the documentary Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked for the History Channel. After Winfield's death in 2004, he replaced Paul Winfield as narrator for the A&E show City Confidential. He appeared in the trailer for the film Primeval, which was released in the United States on January 12, 2007.

David was the voice of police detective Alex Cross in three James Patterson's audiobook versions: Cat and Mouse (1997), Pop Goes the Weasel (1999), and Roses are Red (2000). Bebe Proud Clone from The Proud Family Film, Atlas from Teen Titans, the lone male gorilla Tublat in The Legend of Tarzan, and the Decepticon Barricade in Transformers: The Game are among the script's voice actors.

In Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, the Black Cat in Coraline, Sergeant Foley's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Great Warfare 2, and the Big Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man film "Survival of the Fittest."

He narrated Celebration at the Station, a Memorial Day service held annually at the World War I Memorial across from Union Station on May 25, 2008. Frank W. Buckles, the last living veteran of World War I, was honored at the funeral. In the third episode of PBS' "God In America: How Religious Liberty Shaped America" in 2010, Frederick Douglass appeared.
