On Camp Lazlo, he was Edward T. Platypus, Nurse Leslie, Dave, and Ping-Pong. Lawrence appeared in Filburt's Modern Life and is the voice of Announcer and Manant in The Aquabats! This is a Super Show! Lawrence is a stand-up comedian, cartoonist, writer-director, animator, and producer of the television show Johnny Talks. In its second season as a layout assistant, he appeared on The Ren and Stimpy Show. He has also worked as an editor on Rocko's Modern Life, The Twisted Whiskers Exhibition, and Mighty Magiswords.
Lawrence performed in New Jersey and Los Angeles, collaborating with comedian Jeremy Kramer and Boston comedy writer Martin Olson. Lawrence was described by Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, a storyboard writer for Rocko's Modern Life and co-creator of Phineas and Ferb, as having a "unique sense of humor" and that one "would need to know Doug to know (or not understand)" his style, according to him. Lawrence's humor theories and decisions, according to Marsh, "remain a mystery to us forever."
