Kathleen Robertson (born July 8, 1973) is a Canadian actress.

She is best known for her appearances as Tina Edison (1990–1993) and Clare Arnold in the Fox teen drama series Beverly Hills (1994–1997).

Robertson appeared in a number of films from 2011 to 2012, and in the Starz political drama series Boss, played Kitty O'Neill.

In the TNT series Murder in the First, Robertson starred as homicide detective Hildy Mulligan from 2014 to 2016.

In 2019, she appeared as a central character in William Baldwin's series Northern Rescue.

Early life

Robertson was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and attended Sherwood Secondary School and Hillfield Strathallan College, a local private school. She began taking acting lessons when she was ten years old and appeared in local theatre productions. Her first television appearances were in The Campbells, My Private Identity, and E.N.G.

Personal life

From 1997 to 2000, Robertson dated respected independent filmmaker Gregg Araki.

Since 2004, Robertson has been married to film director Chris Cowles. They own DEBUT CONTENT and have several films and television series in various stages of development. On July 9, 2008, she gave birth to her first child, William Robertson Cowles, at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Bennett, Robertson's second son, was born in October 2016.

Tina Edison, the eldest of three children of Dr. Fred Edison (Joe Flaherty), appeared on the Canadian sitcom Maniac Mansion from 1990 to 1993. Two Young Artist Awards were given to her for this role. She appeared in several small films and television shows, but she didn't make her debut on the big screen until her small role in the 1992 thriller film Blown Away, opposite Corey Haim and Nicole Eggert. Quiet Killer, Kate Jackson's co-starring, made her American debut in the 1992 made-for-television film Quiet Killer.

In 1994, Robertson appeared in Clare Arnold's series regular role in Beverly Hills, 90210. She appeared on the program from 1994 to 1997, from seasons four to seven. In 1997, her ex-boyfriend, filmmaker Gregg Araki, portrayed Lucifer, one of a group of bored, alienated, and horny Los Angeles teenagers in the black comedy drama Nowhere. Splendor (1999), she appeared in his second film, later in his life. Robertson has appeared in many films throughout her career. In Sally Field's directed comedy-drama Beautiful (2000) and the parody film Scary Movie 2 (2001), she appeared opposite Luke Wilson in romantic comedy Dog Park (1998). She appeared in more recent independent drama film XX/XY, starring Mark Ruffalo. In the made-for-television film Torso: The Evelyn Dick Story, Robertson played Evelyn Dick, a Canadian criminal prosecutor whose conviction remains the most dramatic event in Canadian criminal history. Robertson was selected for a Gemini Award for his role in the film.

Robertson appeared in the Fox legal drama series Girls Club, created by David E. Kelley, in 2002. She appeared in a number of independent films in the past, as well as on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Medium, CSI: Miami, and Rookie Blue. She appeared in Hollywoodland in 2006 opposite Adrien Brody. Executive Produced and played a key role in the IFC comedy comedy series The Business, from 2006 to 2007. In 2007, she appeared in the EMMY Award-winning Syfy miniseries Tin Man as the main protagonist of the tale.

In 2011, she was portrayed as Kitty O'Neill, Tom Kane's personal aide, alongside Kelsey Grammer in the Starz original drama series Boss. In late 2012, the show was cancelled after two seasons. In recent years, Robertson has appeared in a number of made-for-television films, notably for Lifetime's Last Exit (2006) and Time of Death (2013). Robertson's resume also included producing and screenwriting in the 2010s. Robertson completed the Writers Guild's Showrunners Training Program in 2015, where she was mentored by former WGA West president John Wells. In 2017, she began adapting The Possibilities, Kaui Hart Hemmings' sequel to The Descendants, about a young Colorado mother whose son was killed in a skiing avalanche and then began a relationship with a mysterious teenage girl. Christina Applegate was also a writer on The Time Is Up for Lifetime, a comedy-drama drama set in Toronto.
