Before Fame

He received both his undergraduate degree in political science and his J.D. Los Angeles' University of California is located in Los Angeles. He had the distinction of being the first Memphis prosecutor of African descent early in his career.

Trivia

He was the first black judge to preside in a court television show: he opened the way for future generations of television judges like Greg Mathis. He unsuccessfully ran for District Attorney of Shelby County, Tennessee, in 2014.
