Life and career

Magalli, a native of Rome, studied at the Istituto Massimiliano Massimo, with Mario Draghi and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo as classmates.

In the first Italian tourist village at the end of the 1960s, he began his career as an entertainer. He became a Pippo Franco collaborator in the seventies, writing his monologues. By RAI in 1977, he had been employed as a television writer.

Magalli debuted as a television host with the Rai Uno TV-quiz Pronto gioca? Several successful television shows, including Fantastico, I fatti vostri, and Domenica, were later produced by the actor.

Magalli has served with Rome's municipal police, of which he is an honorary agent, on patrol two nights a week, earning the rank of sergeant and captain. He is also a carabiniere.

Magalli was elected Commendator of the Italian Republic in April 2007. In January 2015, he ranked first in an Il Fatto Quotidiano poll, naming the most favored candidate to replace Giorgio Napolitano as the Italian Republic's President.

Giancarlo Magalli has married twice and has two children; he claims to be Roman Catholic but dubious.
